Ghettofest 5.0
Reviewed by: Johnny Quest
OK....going into this thing I was expecting there to be many
drunken teenagers ridding themselves of anger in the mosh pits in some overcrowded dingy
basement with leaks all over the place. To my surprise the latter was not true, in fact
the place that was rented out to hold this "fest" was a large hall with a small
stage for the bands, it was actually very nice looking, so I said, "This may not be
so bad after all". Then came the bands.... The first band up I don't even remember the name of or who was in the actual band, because for some reason it seemed like just anybody was walking up on stage and grabbing an instrument and jamming with them. This lack of structure and order highly confused me and well...everybody else there. Thank god they only played for like 15 or 20 minutes.... The second band up were The Dicks. These guys played a style of melodic rock similar to let's say the Foo Fighters....but without the talent. They were very sloppy and disorganized, which made for ear-wrenching boredom for another half hour or so. This was not turning out good.... Ahhhh....the third band up was a savior. Local Bronx punkerz Diluted Society took the stage and looked like a band should, prepped and ready to blast out your ear drums. As usual they ripped through their set, jumping about like monkeys on X.....needless to say sending the drunken crowd led by 2 girls into bouts of moshing. They enjoyed themselves as did the crowd who just threw themselves all over the place. All in all a successful energy packed performance. They were also the only band performing that night representing punk, and nobody complained. So good job! Following ..ds.. was the Hispanic fused rock styling of the Law Biting Citizens. Yeah...nothing special here. I'd describe these guys as Puya without the hardcore metal edge, in fact I left to get a bite to eat while they were playing, so I can't really say |
much for them. Some of the crowd were really into them,
but they did not persuade my taste. After Law Biting Citizens came the band Sixis. As described to me by the lead singer/bassist Matt, Sixis was an industrial band that tried to fuse it into metal.... needless to say they sounded bad. The first song they played, or should I say attempted to play, was Last Caress by The Misfits (one of my favorite bands)...I didn't think a band could butcher a Misfits song, but man was I proved wrong. They sounded like they took the song, ingested it, took some ex-lax and let that baby rip right out of their asses. The rest of their set was just as bad too. Makes me think what the hell people see in bands like that.... The last band to play was P.T. Grimm & the Dead Puppies. These guys upon entering the hall looked like demented jokers, and oh were they ever. Once I saw the singer pull out a porno mag I knew this was gonna be fun. These guys were made up of only 2 singers, a guitarist, Bass, and keyboard players....no drums! I thought this was going to take away from their sound, but it didn't, they totally rocked the place. The singers and Bassist led the show with their energy and antics including nudity of the male kind(and of the female kind from the audience). The stage presence and energy given off by this band was amazing and made for a very entertaining show, which was desperately needed because of the amount of bad acts. I suggest checking out this band if you're looking for an electronically driven experimental/Industrial group to have fun with. Free admission, dollar beers, drunken teenagers, nudity and a lesbian make-out scene......what more can you ask for? Well...except for more than 2 enjoyable bands. |
