MxPx The Ever Passing Moment |
Review By: The Cluck Date: 4/20/01 |
Mx Who? I would like to warn you that I am going to be reviewing The Ever Passing Moment and all you "Px"ers might get violent with me. However, I feel you should respect this opinion and keep your bomb threats to yourself. After the release of The Ever Passing Moment (was it ever), fans of MxPx were receiving mail asking to vote the band onto MTV and the radio. After I stopped laughing, I asked people what they thought, and majority said that MxPx were "sellouts" and they lost the respect of fans. I'll admit, I like them, even have some CD's, but I'm not a devoted fan. After hearing all of this, I decided as an impartial person to have a listen for myself. Boy oh Boy, was the majority right!! I would like to exclude two songs, "Buildings Tumble" (track 2) and "Two Whole Years" (track4) from this review. Those songs were very good and very catchy. However... the CD was written for the radio "teeny-boppers". I mean seriously, how many times can you recycle a chord |
progression, let alone in one CD!! What did they think,
if one song was a hit, the others would be too? It was the same crap over and
over. I couldn't tell where a song ended and the next began. Is this "The
Next Big Thing" for them? What the hell happened to the first big thing?
Did it secretly pass us by or did it kick us in the ass? Oh wait, I know. It
was when they put out this CD in hope of gaining more fans, and in the end, nobody new
liked them and so many of their older fans deny they're ever heard of them. Great,
isn't it? If these guys don't make something happen, and go back to being MxPx (you
know the guys who wrote music because they liked it, no to sell it), they will be
just another lame ass punk band that will be forgotten in a year or two. So next time you hear some poor tortured soul say "hey isn't The Ever Passing Moment great" or "Why haven't they played MxPx on the radio yet?", think of this review and pat them on the head to remind them of how rare and special they are. Remember, this was my opinion so please be open-minded to it. And no, my address isn't listed so don't bother looking!!:) |
