Dr Juice - 12/31/02
Webster Theatre
Hartford, CT

I'd heard good things about Dr. Juice, and knew that Rob from Creek sat in with the band all the time, so myself and my girlfriend Katie made sure to get to the Webster with enough time to catch a seat at the wall, and see just what the Juice could do. We ended up sitting next to Brian, who videotaped the set.
Stuck In The Mud was a great opener, setting the tone for a high energy night, with Mike & Julee shining through, and some great work from Dennis. Peter & The Prostitute was up next, and I got my first dose of Julee's masterful flute work. Dennis nailed an awesome solo, and took the song into orbit. Purple Love Song came next, with Mike & Joe driving the intro. Then came State Of Mind, and a big dose of Julee & her effect setup. The sad tale of Thelonius & Sue was up next, and got the folks who weren't already dancin around up and cheering. At this point, I knew that I was seing a band that I would fall in love with, and everything after was just amazing. Moose brought down the house, and it was followed by Mike singing about his Crazy Girl, and Dennis gave us a nice taste of Dark Star in the middle jam. My Good Time popped up next, and was a treat. The title track from their CD Rub It, that was released that evening came next. Following Rub It, came one of my now favorite tunes, Blue Scenes, driven by Joe. Then a short jam while they introduced themselves, and Dennis hit the intro to my current favorite tune, Leon The Pig Farmer, and the band proceded to tear down the stage, and leave it all wide open for the Max Creek sets that followed. Julee and Dennis also spent a good portion of the show, including the NYE countdown onstage jamming with Creek, completing one heck of a NYE.
