Interview from Popcorn magazine- Greece- August `98
Interview to Constantino Bourouni

Alexia came to Athens for only one concert in Alimo,
and she gave us a chance to be alone with her and
"interogate" her for you, and also photograph her
exclusively. Just so we could "steal" some of the
freshness of the Italian beauty.

What was the first disc you bought?
A- It was of an Italian singer called Eduardo Bernando.

What is your (star) sign?
A- It's Taurus

How would you characterize your music?
A- I believe it's very fresh, easy to remember, and
cheerful.

How did you start getting professionaly into the
music business?

A- I used to sing since I was young. So, I started
working in small bands, because I wanted little by
little to become famous. I was always professional
even when the people I used to work with weren't
nice. Everything started when i met my producer in a
club I used to sing in Ibiza. I did some vocals for
him and it was very important because I learned how
to sing in a studio. That was very complicated and
different from singing live. When you record your
voice it stays the same for years, forever. it is
different from singing live, (when you sing live) you
say it and that is all. Then I started trusting
myself and my talent. I started developing, and
becoming very very good with vocals. Finally in 1995
I started my own career with my first single "Me and
You".

Despite that the CD (The Party) is very danceable, do I detect
rightly a love for melodies?

A- I believe it -is normal- for a singer of dance
songs to be first of all a singer. So some day you
want to try something different. This happens not
because you want to show the world you can sing the
same or another kind, but that you want to change.
If you eat constantly, every day meat, some time you
will want to eat fish, and change flavors. I am sure
it is very difficult to change music styles. You have
to be very well prepared, it demands hard work,
because the public already knows you, and since you
try something different they have to accept you. It
is a long road for this.

Do you write your own songs?
A- Yes, I used to write previously some pieces of the
melodies. Because me and my producer used to exchange
ideas and views when we used to write songs. He used
to explain to me and so we worked together on our
ideas. We talked if it was sucessful or not, if it
was a nice song we'd keep it, if not then we'd throw
it away.

What are your favorite singers?
A- I like very much the famous Backstreet Boys, and
Boyzone. I believe they are famous not only because
the youth loves them, but also because they are good
singers and artists. Also I like All Saints and
Eternal. But I also like old songs by Aretha
Franklin or Steve Wonder. Now I like very much this
rock singer called Anouk. Very famous in Italy and
she has nice loud songs such as "Nobody's Wife". I
love that song very much.

Are you in love this period?
A- No, this moment I am alone because I work very
hard and I know that every relationship with a
famous, or a person who tries to be famous, is a very
difficult compromise for the other person. This
moment I don't have something. It's not a beautiful
this situation, sometimes I feel alone. I meet many
men through my work, from bands that are very good
and nice kids. And I'd like to pass my time with
them, but I say to myself "Ok, you can, but if you do
this, then you will suffer".

Do you have a very daring sexual fantasy?
A- No, I never had a non real sexual fantasy. Some
times I dreamed that it was real, real the dream and
when I'd wake up it was ugly. As a dream with a guy
that I used to date many years ago, but when I'd wake
up the fantasy would be over.

What is one of your most intense erotic memory?
A- I had many romantic times, and I remember when I
was in Brazil I had a wonderful week and all was
fantastic, it was very romantic and beautiful.

What makes you cry?
A- When I am very tired, when I am in a weird,
difficult situation. Also when i see romantic movies
and when I see people and especially kids suffering...

What is your oppinion about Greece?
A- I like Greece a lot, it's my first time here. I'd
love to come here for many weeks but only for
vacations and nothing else... The weather is beautiful.

Did you know there is a Greek singer called Alexia?
A- Yes, I saw one of her pictures in Billboard
magazine, in which I had given an interview talking
about my program in Italy. And there I saw her
picture and she was blond and different from me, so
that's how I learned about the Greek singer named
Alexia.

Send your thoughts to the readers of Pop Corn.
A- I am very happy to be here and to have had this
experience in Alimo (Athens). I am from Italy from a
small town with the sea. So when I wake up in the
morning I see the sea and that is very important for
my life. I love spending my time in places near the
sea, that makes me happy. Your country is wonderful.
I'd love to give more concerts here, and I also hope
that my work here in Alimo was liked by the Greek
audience.

With many thanks to Sakis Pavlakakis
