The geographic odd group out in this site, the west coast styles of Dilated Peoples are still very much a part of the new scene.  The trio's graf rather than gat attitude seems unique on the gangsta-is-the-only-way west side.  In fact, the combination of rappers Iriscience and Evidence and turntablist Babu is fresh and fun.  Following old skool influences, the Dilated party rhymes and funky beats and scratches are more akin to London scene artists than LA stale stalwarts like Snoop and the ever unoriginal Dre.  The Dilated major label release, The Platform, following years of underground dues paying, is groovy from start to finish, and contains several party anthems, like the title track.
