New York rapper/producer Mike Ladd's latest creation is an album full of guest appearances, a loose collective dubbed The Infesticons for the purpose of the concept album Gun Hill Road. The guests are a who's who of underground New York hip-hop, featuring most notably the work of El-P of Company Flow and Ladd's Big Dada labelmate Saul Williams. The real attraction to the Infesticons album, however, is Ladd's almost lazy style, with rhymes that could only come from the mind of a well-educated man. Ladd has been getting props on the NY indy scene for years with the releases under his own name. Ladd, a.k.a. Infesticon #0, is definately a pro, and the only con about The Infesticons is that the production is often more artistic than functional. |
