After years of jumping from label to label, alias to alias, Wagon Christ (a.k.a. Luke Vibert) has recently signed with Ninjatune for the release of his brand new album Musipal. The dj is a bit of an odd choice for the Ninjas, more akin to the N-Tone gang with his largely computer-generated trip-hop, but phat beats and a musical sense of humour make him a welcome addition to the Ninja roster, where Wagon Christ will hopefully stay. His second album under this moniker, Tally Ho!, was hugely popular in the trip-hop dj scene, and those electronic grroves are transferred well to the new album. The New Scene is not a big fan of pc-based music, but Luke Vibert transcends the boundaries that contain most electonic musicians and is well worth checking out. |
