Second Chances

The rain trickled down her window as if they were teardrops. Lightning flashed and lit up her entire bedroom. Everytime it flashed she could see the image of the picture on her dresser. The image of the two of them smiling. Quickly she got up and took the picture frame from its place and shoved in a dark drawer. She lay back on the bed. It was around 2 in the morning and she was extremely tired. But she couldnt sleep. All she could think about was him. She wondered where he was at now. And what would have happend if she had made a diffrent decision.

"Rise and Shine sweetheart" Chris Kirkpatrick said to the youngest bandmate.

Justin yawning and wiping his eyes stared up at Chris from his hotel bed. "Do not call me sweetheart man." He said bluntly as he rolled back over and hugged his pillow, trying to fall back asleep.

"Come onnnn.." Chris said dragging Justin by his feet out onto the floor.

"HEY hey man!" Justin said trying to hold on to the edge of the bed But Chris finally managed to drag him completly out in the floor. "Ok that was not cool!" Chris just stood there laughing at his friend as he stumbled to get up.

"Sorry man but we got early rehearsels today you know that."

"Yeah I knew that." Justin said fumbling through his suitcase for his clothes. "I knew it last night when you and Joey drug me out to that club." He said laughing.

"Oh yeah I forgot Mr.Goody two-shoes. Like we had to drag you kicking and screaming to go with us" Chris said leaving the room as Justin headed to the bathroom to take a shower.

"You know it!" Justin said.

---BEEP BEEP---"SMACK" No matter how late Kaitlynn stayed up her alarm clock never failed to go off at 5am on the dot. She finally managed to drag herself out of bed and get ready for work. As she stood in front of her mirror, brushing her long brown hair, she saw that her green eyes were nice and puffy from the night before. She started to cover it up with make-up but decided not to. Not wanting to make it even more obvious. She left her house just in time to get stuck in the morning traffic. Finally she reached her job, 5 minutes late.

"Well Knoxville...it looks like Katie isnt gonna show up for us...oh wait I think I see her coming in right now.."

"Thats right Jordan, Sorry everyone, got caught in that pesky morning traffic again. So you all be careful out there and I think theres a road block in I-75 so you may wanna watch out for that."

Kaitlynn had worked as a receptionist at Star 93.1, a top 40 radio station. One day they needed another DJ to fill in on the weekend on short notice. Her boss asked her to do it and he was so pleased with the response that they had got from her that he started letting her work on weekends and sometimes late nights, Filling in all the empty spots. But just a few weeks ago one of the morning DJ's had to leave thier job. So Kaitlynn was offered the job and she gladly accepted. She was now one of the most popular DJ's at the station. Well next to the other morning DJ, Jordan of course. Jordan was a couple years older than Katie. but he had become one of her closest friends since she had been working there. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes and a great sense of humor

"Katie?" he said as the music started playing and they were off the air.

"Mmm hmm.." she said going through Cd's trying to find a request that someone had made.

"Either youve been drinking...which I highly doubt, Doing drugs..which would make me think that youve switched personalities or something...or youve been up all night crying again..which is it?"

"Oooh I found it!" she said smiling and handing him the Cd. Completly avoiding his question.

"Katie.."
"What were my choices again?"
"Katie.."
She started to open her mouth and tell him when the song that was playing came to and end. "And that was "Until the time is through" by that bubbly british pop group you all love, 5ive! Now heres Michelle's request for the Goo Goo Dolls "Black balloon"
"And dont forget theyll be playing at the World's fair park next month so get your tickets while you can" Jordan said into the micrphone then turned towards Katie while the song started.

"You cant keep obsessing over this Katie"
"Dont you think I know that Jordan?" She said with her eyes filling up with tears.
"Im sorry..I didnt mean to get you upset. Its just I worry about you. I mean you come in here almost every morning looking like you havent slept in a year.

"yeah..a year..." She said. "Its been around a year."
"Katie dont do this to yourself."

"Why did I do it Jordan? Why did I let him go so easily?"

"Because you thought it was the right thing to do and who knows maybe it was."
"Yeah" she said to herself. "Maybe."

"Ugh I cannot get this move down!" Joey Fatone said throwing his hands up in the air.
"Dont sweat it man youll get it. I promise" JC Chasez said

Joey, JC, Lance, Chris and Justin...also known as NSYNC were standing around the dance studio during thier break. They were rehearsing moves for thier upcoming North American tour. The guys had been pretty much taking it easy for a while since thier last album. Not doing very much promotional work or interviews so naturally thier popularity had gone down as well since then. They were hoping to gain it all back with thier new album and tour.

"Hey guys have we got the tour schedule yet?" Justin Timberlake said as he popped Goldfish crackers in his mouth, throwing the occasional one to Joey.
"I think theyre supposed to bring it by today" Lance Bass said.
"Cool" Justin said. "We better be goin to Memphis."
"You know we will Justin. Thats mandantory with you in the group." JC said.

The guys just stood there wondering if they already knew what Justin was thinking.

"So uhh.." He said "Do yall think we are gonna go anywhere else in Tennessee?"
"Nashville probably" Chris said
"Oh.." Justin said with some dissapointment in his voice. "Well then I guess we should get back to work huh?"

Kaitlynn went home after work and sat down on the couch in her apartment. "I cant do this" she thought. "I cant just keep sitting here thinking about him" She got up and decided this would be a good time as any to clean her room. She went to her closet first and started pulling things off of the top shelf so that she could dust it off. Suddenly a box fell in the floor. She knew exactly what was in it and she picked it up and started to put it away. But something made her sit down on the bed and open it. Inside were pictures, ticket stubs and autographs from a concert. As she looked at them her eyes blurred through the tears, she thought about everything that had happend. It seemed like it was only days ago that the pictures had been taken...

"Ok you two lovebirds smile!" Jc said as he held the camera. "Justin put that thing back in your mouth! Im sure Katie wants a nice picture."

Justin just laughed as he put his arm around Katie. She layed her head over on his shoulder as JC took the picture.
"Aww now thats what I call a kodak moment." He said handing her the camera back.
Justin pulled her close to him. "Mmm Im gonna miss you so much." He said as he hugged her.
"I know Im gonna miss you too." She said. "But We'll be together again. Itll work I know it will"
"Thats my girl" Justin said smiling then he kissed her on the forehead

"RIIIING!!"

The phone ringing made Kaitlynn practically jump through her skin. She finally came to her senses and got the phone.

"H-hello?"
"Katie, Its Bill can you do a location gig for me tonight?" It was her boss at the station.
"Uhh..umm sure..Yeah I can do it where is it at?"
"Over at the Network." Kaitlynn just stood there holding the phone.
"Katie? You still there hun? Its that little dance club over on..."
"Yeah, yeah Bill I know where its at. Sorry I was just in a daze or something. When do you need me there?"
"At least by 7:30. Thanks so much Katie your a doll. Bye now.

"Your welcome, bye Bill." She said as she hung up the phone "Why the Network of all places?" she thought to herself as she grabbed her things and headed out the door.

"Hey there guys!" Johnny Wright said walking into the dance studio where the guys still were.
"Hey Johnny is that the tour schedule?" Justin said
"Yep here you go. Now its not final...we may need to add or take some off.."

Justin scanned the page for Tennessee...Memphis was on it of course. and Nashville..but it always was. He kept staring at the page when Lance finally pointed out what he was looking for.

"Its down here Justin." Lance said. "We're not playing Knoxville right after Memphis and Nashville."
"Oh..I wasnt looking for that..."Justin said.
"Then what were you looking for Justin?" Chris said knowing that Justin was lying through his teeth.
"Nothing..nothing..I was just seeing you know where all we were playing and all I wasnt looking for her..." He stopped talking suddenly when he realized what he said. "I-I-i..I mean That, I wasnt looking for that." His friends just stared at him. Chris rolled his eyes. They could see right through him.
"Guys dont look at me like that. Im over her. We broke up. ITS BEEN A YEAR ok? Its over let it go.

"If you want me girl let me know..." Chris said laughing.
"Chris.."
"Sorry man couldnt help it. Its a habit."
"Justin why dont you just call her up?" JC said
"WHAT? are you crazy? Im not doing that. I told you Im over her."
"Hey man if you say so. Im just trying to help.But if you ask me youre not over her."
"Well nobody asked you!" Justin said angrily.
"OH KAY no need to get all huffy! Youre over her she never even enters your mind...sorry I even bothered!"
"Look Jc Im sorry. But Im right on this ok?"
"Allright." Jc said giving in even though he knew Justin better than that. БАБАБАБАБАБАБАБА
"...So come on out and join the party here at the Network. We're live on Star 93.1!" Katie said turning off her microphone and sitting back in her chair. She looked around the room. "This is where it all started" she said to herself.

The line was practically going out the door of the dance club into the street. But with her job as a receptionist at the radio station, Katie was able to get a VIP pass to meet her favorite group. NSYNC. They were doing a special autograph signing at the Network and she was able to go early and meet them before the crowd arrived...

"Hi Im Jc"
"Im Joey"
"Im Lance"
"Im Chris"
"And Im Justin" The guys introduced themselves to her as she shook each of thier hands. Her heart was racing but she thought it was going to explode by the time she got to the last one. Justin. He was the one that she had plastered all over her walls. He was the one with that sweet voice and adorable little laugh. When he shook her hand she just stood there gazing into his eyes. Forget trying to talk to him..she was trying to breathe.

"And you are....?" He said still shaking her hand.
"Oh Im umm..Katie er Kaitlynn.." She said letting go of his hand. her voice was trembling.'
"Hey now dont be nervous. We're not gonna bite I promise." he said smiling.
"Yeah and if we do Chris already had his rabies shot so you shouldnt have to worry about that." Jc said. That made everyone start laughing. At least it eased some of the tension.

"Dj Katie?..hello? Katie?"
"Umm..Oh yes?" Katie said just realizing that there were two teenage girls standing in front of her.
"Have you heard anything about the new Nsync album?" One of the girls asked.
Katie sat there in shock, A new album??? It had to be a rumor. Nobody had even heard anything from them for almost a year. But could it be?

"Umm no girls Im sorry I havent heard anything about it."
"Oh ok thanks." One of the girls said and started to walk off.
"Hey um..wait where did you all hear about it at?" Katie asked them, guessing it was some wild rumor over the internet or something.
"Oh we saw it on TRL today. Lance called in to the show and told Carson about it. Its supposed to be thier big comeback album"
"Oh really?? hmm well we havent heard anything but Ill try to find out for you all ok?"
"Thanks Katie we'll be listening." The girls walked off but Katie could still hear thier conversation.
"Oh my gosh I hope they come back. Justin was so hot!
"I know I wonder if he's still looks that good?"
"HELLO! Its Justin Timberlake of course he does."
"yeah.." Katie thought to herself, "Of course he does."
At 1:30 in the morning the club was fixing to close down. Kaitlynn started gathering her things and was waiting for Jordan to come and help load up the rest. She sat there watching the janitor sweep the floor and she started thinking about the last time she was there that late. It was the same day that she had met the guys. They did a concert that night and she was able to get front row seats. Justin smiled at her at diffrent times during the show and then later on that night when they all went back to the club for the after party, He saw her and started talking to her. They talked and danced the whole night. Occasionally some of the other guys would come over and join in on the conversation, But it was usually just her and Justin. By the end of the night she was so comfortable around him. It was nothing like that morning when they first met. The club was fixing to close and everyone else had already left. They were still dancing and talking when the janitor started to clean up.

"Um do you think that maybe we should leave now?" Katie said laughing as they held each other close and danced to Brian McKnight's "Anytime"
"Naw theyll have to RUN us off!" Justin said looking at the janitor who then gave him a weird look."Just playin man.." He said as he cleared his throat."Umm yeah maybe we should. Do you want to go back to my room?"
Kaitlynn, kinda shocked by what he just said, just stood there and finally managed to talk."Umm yeah I guess thatll be ok.."
"OH no no no no..thats not what I meant!!" Justin said laughing. "No geez Katie what do you take me for? I just wanna talk."
"Im sorry!" She said laughing."I just took it the wrong way..thats all. I wasnt thinking."
"Yeah sure..You think Im a playa just like all the rest of em'..I see how you are now." He said putting his arm around her and leading her out to the limo.
"Justin no I didnt mean it like that.."
"Katie sweetie I know! Im kidding, Its a joke! calm down. You got some bad nerves girl." He said as he leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.
"Yeah I ..I-i guess I do."..she said with her voice shaking like it was earlier. "Great!" she thought."Now im back where I started at."
"Yo Katie, ready to go??"
"Huh?"
"Hey Katie kate.." Jordan said sticking his head through the door of the club. "Yoo hoo..are you ready?"
"Oh Jordan! Im sorry. I.. umm yeah Im ready."
Jordan walked over to her. "Im sorry Katie I shouldve done this tonight."
"Why? I wasnt busy.."
"No I mean since you know..you havent been here since..."
"Jordan I have to do my job. I cant let this take over it as well."
"I know but...I know youve been thinking about him a lot lately..so I shouldve done it."
"Dont worry about it Jordan Im fine." БАБАБАБАБАБАБАБАБА
Justin stood in his hotel room at 2 in the morning staring out the window. "We're going to Knoxville." He thought. "What if she comes to the show..What am I going to do? What will I say?" But then his heart started beating faster when he thought "What if she isnt there anymore?..or What if...shes found someone else." Justin rested his head on the window and ran his fingers down the cold glass. He remembered the last time he ever talked to her. It was over the phone. The guys were on the European leg of thier tour and distance had become too much for thier relationship.

"Justin I cant do this anymore."
"Katie, wait please just listen to me..."
"No Justin! Every time I turn around I hear another rumor about you.."
"And thats all it is! Theyre RUMORS Katie, You know me. You trust me.."
"I dont know if I do anymore"
"Y-you dont trust me?? Why what have I done to make you not trust me anymore?
"Justin you said on national television that you were single." Her voice trembling so much she could barely talk. "You said that you didnt have a girlfriend. What am I then Justin?"
"You ARE my girlfriend Katie but you know how that is. Ive told you and I thought you understood."
"Im sorry Justin but I cant do it anymore. Its just too hard. I havent seen you in months.

"Katie please when I come back home, You can go on tour with us and.."
"And what?? Lose my job? Justin I know that my job may not be as important as yours but its important to me. Ive worked hard to get where Im at and support myself."
"I know that baby but thats the only thing I can come up with"
"What about when I was off over the summer..I was off for two weeks, why didnt you ask me to tour with you then?"
"Because we were in Germany and the fans there are more violent should I say...than the ones in the US. Its dangerous for me and the guys to be out around them I can only imagine what they would do to you."
"Nothing Justin. They wouldnt do anything because they dont know that we're dating"
"They would find out. Or at least they would suspect it. Katie its for your own good. I dont want to see you get hurt because of me."
"Well..Justin Im sorry but its over."
"Katie please...dont"
"I cant do it anymore. I-i Im sorry."
"Katie dont hang up please...we can work it out.."
"Theres nothing to work out anymore Justin Its over Im sorry...I have to go.." He could hear her trying her best to keep from crying. Which made it harder for him to keep from it himself.
"Katie..please.."
"Bye Justin..take care of yourself.."
"K-katie I..."
"click" Justin stood there holding his phone. The silence from the other end was deafening.
"I love you.." he said as the tears rolled down his cheeks and he hung up his phone.

KNOCK KNOCK
Justin looked at his watch "2:30am? who could be at my door at 2:30?" He opened the door and Chris was standing outside.
"Hey why are you up at this hour? Is something wrong?" Chris asked him.
"Umm..well you knocked on my door soo..."
"Justin do you always sleep with your light on?"
"Huh?"
"Your light. Its on..I can see it through the crack in the door...ok now that thats out of the way. Whats wrong?"
"Nothing man I just couldnt sleep thats all."
"Man! I get bags under my eyes too when I lose sleep but they dont get all red and puffy like that" Chris said sarcastically. "You were thinking about her werent you?"
"NO!" Justin spat out at him
"Ok fine you werent...Oh well Im goin back to bed. Better not stay up too late."
Justin looked up at Chris fixing to walk out the door. He couldnt believe he was already giving up. He usually asked him what was wrong at least 5 more times before he gave up. "Chris wait.."
"Well its good to know that psychology major isnt going to waste. Whats up kiddo?"
"What do you think I should do?"
"Hmmm...Well I think you should wait until we get in Knoxville and see what happens."
"Thats it?"
"Or you could call her."
"Or??"
"Or ummm pray that her new husband isnt gonna beat you up?"
"Ha ha very funny. Its a good thing you choose singing over psychology."
"Oh yeah when Im 40...you know here in a few years. I can say I was in a teenybopper group."
