Sect founded in 2049 CE by Dr. Daisuke Francis X. FREITAS THALIATH and Dr. Azucena Miryam OKELO NILSSON, the geneticists who invented the Chloroplast Addition Procedure (CAP), whereby chloroplasts are inserted into human cells. (Consequently, those who have undergone CAP are easily identifiable by their greenish tint.) (see illustration)  All members of the Society must undergo the procedure upon taking Perpetual Vows. Members are also forbidden from wearing clothing, in order that photosynthesis levels be maintained. (The only exception is the turban (based on the dastar of the Sikh Khalsa) that all adult members wear; it is worn to prevent hair from obstructing photosynthesis on the back.)The principles and beliefs of the Society hardly differ from those of the Bahá'í Catholic Community, from which it is an offshoot. In structure and practice it closely resembles a traditional Bahá'í Catholic religious order. The only noticeable differences between the Society of the Holy Kalimalaika and the Bahá'í Catholic Community are the CAP, the assumption of the Nazirite Vow (along with a related prohibition from removing any hair from the body), and a special emphasis on nonviolence and ecology. In reaction to the New Louisiana disaster of 2080, the Society officially annexed the state of Costa Rica in 2081 in a bloodless coup. The Society continues to be headquartered in San José, Costa Rica, and it is estimated that by 2091, sixty percent of Costa Ricans had joined the Society. The Society currently has adherents in nearly all Terran regions (except, noticeably, Tanzania), and even has several small colonies off-world. Its estimated current membership is 5,830,000. The current Executive Superior (spiritual leader) is the Very Rev. Msgr. Noor Amanda Ignatia JONQUIÈRE VAN BEAUMONT, Ph.D.(Psych.), S.T.D. The "mantra" of the Society, found on the Seal of the Society and on the flag of Costa Rica, is "Gaurrak shasfan sé dormín!" (origin and meaning unknown).
