Introduction to ONCOVADEMECUM 2000

This book is a new and complete version of the first book “Vademecum in Cancerology”.
In the 4 new introduced chapters, the author tried to synthesize some actual oncological problems, insisting on practical aspects. A different chapter is dedicated to subjects thought until recently as delicate ones: cancer and euthanasia.
The book is addressed to all those who, in their daily practice, are in contact with the cancer patients, especially to the generalist practitioners and students in the Medical Sciences. The book may be used easily by the cancer patients, too.
Jallaludi Rumi said:”you appreciate the taste of a slice of bread even you are hungry or not.” The author considers that the ideas debated in this book will be appreciated at their value only if the practician who cures a cancer patient will find a practical answer to his daily questions.

Kerkrade, the Netherlands, 1998 - 1999.

General items:
· it is a new edition of the book “Vademecum in Cancerology” published in 1997 in Bucharest, by the Science Publishing House, the same author.
· The excellent response in Romania and Moldavia (some opinions are shortly presented on the cover of this book) was a strong motivation for the author. So, he was rewritten the book with new bibliographical information and with new chapters.

Destination?
· To every doctor who is in contact with cancer patients, the book being considered as an “oncological agenda”.
· To the students of the Medical University.
· To the medical staff, especially to those who work in the Cancerology field.
Willingly using a non - academically style, the author tried to make the book accessible to a large public, even to the patient and to his family who can find here a so-called “second opinion”, a frequent practice in the western countries.

Why?
· After diagnosis, the evolution of a cancer patient is significantly influenced by the TREATMENT.
· The first decision depends on:
-The diagnosis (if it was precocious or tardy)
-The background of the first decision maker (or medical team), his professionalism and of course on the technical equipment.
-The Cancer patient himself, once he/she accepts the treatment [if he/she relies more on scientific Medicine than on alternative Medicine (herbal remedies or other the “wonder - doctors”, often presented by mass-media]
· The author of the book prefers the classical medicine, the methods that turned out to be beneficial in the cancer treatment, so far unanimously accepted in the world from Bethesda, Maryland to Tokyo, maybe also in Romania, by the informed persons and who succeeded in saving 2 of 3 cancer patients!
