Home - Countries Visited - Cayman Islands - 1998 | |
We tramped about the little town of Georgetown on Grand Cayman, and admired the duty free shops and souvenir shops that catered to the cruise ships that docked for several hours each day. These were not junk shops. They were British imports and trendy fashion shops! Of course, we couldn't pass by the rum-cake shops, and loaded up on genuine Cayman Island rum cakes for friends and family we would soon see. I think this island might require a return visit, for the water was clear, the island was clean and there were flowers everywhere. On each block was a discrete bank building, quietly announcing (with a small gold plaque) that they accepted the billions of dollars of foreign money for whoever didn't want to bank in their home country. We discussed it, and decided we'd keep our billions at home. But we couldn't stay - for home beckoned. "Farewell Caymans," we called out as we sailed west and left it behind. Next stop - USA!!
