Home - Countries Visited - Isla Providencia 1994

Isla Providencia is an island smack dab on the sailing path from Roatan to Panama. Nothing to do but stop. The route takes you through an area of dangerous shoals and sandbanks. We knew that after the stress of making it safely through, we'd want a rest to shake our nerves out again. On the way among these banks, we passed a banana boat. Oh, not a banana boat that a Harry Belafonte song might conjure up, but a big business banana boat. Six hundred feet of white-hulled freighter, glistening in the sunshine, glided past us, with the biggest, yellowest banana I have ever seen painted on its side!   Panama>>>
