We stopped first at Rodrigues Island, a possession of Mauritius. It's a small island, a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean, peopled mostly by those of Indian descent. We found them to be much more reserved than the rollicking bunch in Australia, but still, kind and courteous to us. Mauritius was bigger and more populated. Once a sugar growing island for the French, its main income is now derived from tourism.
