The Hylar are known are the noblest Dwarves. They have had the seat of High King held the most of all the clans. Hylar can get quite tall for Dwarves. They have light brown skin and usually have brown, black, gray or white hair. The Hylar live in the Life-Tree of Thorbardin, called Hybardin. Their excellent knowledge of construction allowed them to live inside the giantic stalacilite, an example of their expert "rock knowledge" is sun tunnels which reflect the sunlight outside Thorbardin inside the mountain.

Daewar like Hylar are noted for something outstanding about them, in this case metalworking and making excellent tools ad weapons. Before the Calnar came to bring order to the Dwarves of Kal-Thax, the Daewar were at war with the Daergar and Thiewar. Their other chracteristic that kept them alive back then was their excellent battle prowness. For the most part they are not greedy as thought to be, they merely think wealth should be flaunted; most of them are merchants. The Daewar founded the area later named Thorbarin by delving an immense tunnel to it under the Kharolis Mtns.

The Neidar is the thanedom under which all Hill Dwarves are placed; any Dwarf living outside Thorbardin. They are Dwarves of all the clans who chose a life in the forest rather than a mountain. Intially theses Dwarves worked with their cousins in Thorbardin serving as scouts and supplying timber to clans inside the mountain. Soon though bloodlines grew thin and Mountain Dwarves and Hill Dwarves began hate one another. Up to the point of the Dwarfgate War, where the Mountain Dwarves defeated the Hill Dwarves in a bloody battle. Their seat on the Council of Thanes sits empty. Like Daewar and Hylar they are considered "good Dwarves".

The dark brother of the Hylar are the Daergar, living in a murderous society rather than a lawful one. Daergar live in a society where leaders are replaced through a challenge in combat, or assasination by various means. Daergar leaders live long by killing off challengers before they meet in the ring to battle for Thanehood. They employ assasins to do away with potential threats that may knock them off. In Daerbardin and Daerforge, turning your back on anyone can mean death. These Dwarves live in total blackness and hate the light and the Hylar greatly. Although in some instances Daegar and Hylar have married. In the time of the Calnar these Dwarves wore face maks with slits to see through to aid in seeing during the day outside under the sun. The Daergar are known for excellent mining techniques. They also carry blades that are black not shiny like steel so they dont reflect light.

Like the Daergar, Theiwar are dark dwarves, not mindless bloodthirsty killing machines though. They are more scheming and cunning in their methods to further their own interests. They are pale Dwarves with large eyes easily setting them out from other Dwarves, along with their slightly longer arms. Theiwar are not known for much in terms of mining or killing as their close dark cousins, but they can do something no other Dwarves can, and that is wield magic. Since magic is disliked and disbelieved by all other Dwarves so are the Thiewar, only the Daergar freely associate with them. The Theiwar live in Theibardin which is not well delved like the other cities of Thorbardin.

The Dewer live beneath Thorbardin in the most awful dank places. Due to being exiled by the other clans because of insanity they began to inbreed. The Dewer clan has few sane members among it.
The Zakhar are dark Dwarves like the Dewer but in far worse condition. After being beaten by the Daewar they somehow contracted a decaying disease like leprosy which left them beaten and now gravely ill. . The Daewar offered them a choice to swear allegiance to them or be exiled...they choose to be exiled from Thorbarin...

The largest Dwarves and the intermediate clan between the right minded ones and the Dewer. The Klar live mostly on the banks of the Urkhan Sea but have no name for their city as the other clans do. In the beginning of Thorbarins existence the Klar had an affinity for harnassing the power of Tractor Worms which they used "till" rock. They are quite unorganized in battle and have no skill for strategy whatso ever. In the time before the Calnar came the Daergar persuaded them to join forces in battling the Daewar. They also serve as servants and workers to other clans like the Hylar.

The dumbest being on Krynn is of course the Gully Dwarf. A rare site is seeing one of these beings with the ability to count past 3 (only 2 have been recorded to). Living in anyplace on Krynn practically, but preferring rat infested areas so food is plentiful. They are quite a revolting site. They live in Thorbardin too though, outside and under Daerbardin in what they call Agharhome. They are shunned like Dewer but disrespected greatly due to their stupidity. They have a seat on the Council of Thanes, but their leader the Highbulp rarely shows. The Aghar make they way through life grovelling at the feet of other beings. Gully Dwarves are also servant in many places serving in menial jobs.
