Daewar
Daewar are the dwarven craftsman. They excel at battle and at metalworking and are
considered to be 'good' dwarves as well. Daewar are almost as 'noble' as the Hylar, but
they are more concerned with the acquisition of wealth and are usually the merchants of
dwarvenkind. The Daewars are known as the "Gold Molders" because of their wealth, the Daewar are not just wealthy but they show off their wealth. They are a powerful clan which has ward off many invaders before. The Daewar were the first clan to explore the Urkhan Cavern, where Thorbardin was placed. They like to live in caves rather then cliffsides.
Severus Stonehand is perhaps the most famous Daewar.
The Neidars
Hill dwarves have deep tan to light brown skin and ruddy cheeks and bright eyes. They have deep voices and actually sing quite well. Hill dwarves are looked down upon by the Mountain dwarves, who consider them exiles from the Mountains.
Hill dwarves have small communities that live in above-ground villages. Unmarried hill dwarves often set out on their own, only occasionally returning to their original clan. This makes the Neidar society more warrior based, with some clerics and a few thieves mixed in. But all dwarves look scornfully on the practice of wizardly magic.
All hill dwarves are grouped into this thanedom. Defeated by the mountain dwarves in the Dwarfgate War, this clan of dwarves lives in the hills outside of Thorbardin. They dislike the confines of the underground fortress, but still seek representation on the Council of Thanes.
Neidar are generally 'good' dwarves who exhibit none of the Theiwar of Daergar. The most famous Neidar dwarf is Flint Fireforge, Hero of the Lance.
The Klar
The most humirous tribes of Kal-Thax and Thorbardin. The Klar and unexpected and rash dwarves. They are barbaric people who are crazed warriors. Despite their barbaric preposession, the are quite loyal to Thorbardin. They fight to the death for their nation and obey all orders from a higher official.
The Klar, a thanedom of hill dwarves were subjugated by the Hylar following the
Dwarfgate War, and many now act as servants to many Hylar, though they have their own
underground city on the banks of the Urkhan Sea. They seek a leader to deliver them from their plight. Many of them are still a little crazy after losing the war.
Theiwar
Theiwar are the dark dwarves. Conniving and scheming, Theiwar are always looking for
ways to further their own evil self interest. Theiwar prefer the dark dwellings of Thorbardin, and are easily distinguishable from other dwarves because of their paler complexions, larger eyes and their ability to use magic.
The daergar
The Daergar, "The Dark Seekers" always wear iron masks. They are brilliant warriors and have a strong leadership element under Vog Ironface. They were reluctant to agreeing to the Covenant of the Forge, but now reside in Daerbardin, Thorbardin. The are excellent miners and delvers and were key to the success of the subterrain fortress of Thorbardin
Longtime Chieftan: Vog Ironface.
Tha aghar/gully dwarves
Gully dwarves are short, squat demi-humans, averaging four feet in height. Aghar are physically much like other dwarves, except that they are often covered with scars, boils, sores, and filth due to their living conditions. Gully dwarves don't appear to be as heavy and stocky as the other races of dwarves. They also have narrower fingers and limbs.
Gully dwarves are the product of interracial marriages between gnomes and dwarves, retaining none of the better qualities of either race. Further intermarriages were banned by dwarven andn gnomish societies, and members of this new race were driven out of their clans, particuarly by the dwarves, who regarded them as a blight.
Though derided by the other (more) intelligent races, gully dwarves continue to thrive under conditions that would have broken many others. Gully dwarves don't have an easy time with any classes' skills, though pilfering seems to fit them best. But their intelligence is just two low to grasp the complicated concepts required for wizardry
Gully dwarfs, known in Krynn as the Aghar or anguished ones, are lighter than most, thinner, with narrower limbs and fingers, but commonly pot bellies. Although they are physically similar to other dwarfs, they are often covered with boils, scars, sores, and filth, since they have no sense of personal
cleanliness. They develop wrinkles very quickly after about age twenty-five. Skin colors run from olive brown to light parchment to dirty gray-brown, sometimes splotched or mottled. Males wear full long scruffy beards, and females have heavy pork-chop sideburns but no hair on the chin. Hair color varies, including dirty blond, brown, rust, gray, and dull black, with eyes of watery blue, dull green, brown, or hazel.
These creatures are incredibly stupid, proud of their meager abilities, and very durable and survivable. They regard cowardice a virtue, and raise groveling to an art form. They can distinguish one from many, but have no number system, and cannot distinguish few from many, using "two" for
any number greater than one. Similarly, they regard their own needs as paramount, their own people as highly important, and their own tasks as pivotal in the grand scheme of things. Since they regard other races as, well, not exactly inferior, but not quite up to themselves, it is not possible to persuade them of their own faults.
The Aghar, or Gully Dwarves, are considered by many to be the most repulsive of races on Krynn. Gully dwarves are the diminutive cousins of true dwarves, though they still have a seat on the Council of Thanes in Thorbardin. Their leader, the Highbulp, is the Aghar who is most accomplished at grovelling his way out of any given situation. Terrified of any threat,
Gully Dwarves are exceptionally hard-headed and stupid (the only gully dwarf with the
ability to count beyond two was Bupu, Raistlin Majere's charmed friend, and even she
could only count up to three).
