You said that you knew it was wrong to post these jokes and make these comments, but that only proves to serve my point. (Also, the fact that you wanted to be the first person to welcome the "blacks" who were "bussed" to your school backs up my point as well) First off, I think that your impression that it is wrong to make rascist statements and jokes, stems from the fact that you were raised "white" and not raised as an idividual. Im not trying to say that your parents didn't try to raise you as a person that was unique all yourself, but that they must have at one point sat you down and said something to the line of: You are white, and he is black, and that doesn't matter. We are all human. : That comment to me alone is the seed which was planted many, many years ago in the minds of EVERYONE, and it has ruined alot of peoples ability to see the truth of the matter. The truth being that skin color isn't skin color, it is a mere "dent" in the "lunchbox" that is an individual. (in response to someone who said that people should "embrace" thier racial heratige earlier on this thread): No, people should not embrace thier racial heratige. (it has been proven that man when traced back, is linked to africa (correct me if im wrong)) This is another fact that proves my point, if you want to be literal, then we are all in fact "black". Which would bring us to the matter that now in this world, there are some people who have a white tone (yet still black), some that have a yellow tone (yet still black), etc. (I believe in the existence of other intelligent life in the universe besides ourself, so this theory doesn't really apply to my view, but may help to expand yours. (let us now assume that there isn't any other intelligent life in this universe, and earth makes up all of it)) This makes everyone on this planet a "black" as it were. If everyone thought of themselves as a true individual, when someone who has never seen them were to ask them to describe themself (over the internet lets say). They might say things like, "I snowboard, I camp, I read dickens like it a childrens story, and my skin has somewhat of a white tone, not to white, not really peach, but you know, more of a cream color". (which would be the opposite that most people like to describe themself (I am 23, black, single...etc (yes, earlier in the thread I stated to everyone that I was black but only to lay out my point) ) ) If everyone could not "embrace thier race" as this person so colorfully said they should, we would reach the true foundation of individualism. Webster...I had a great conversation with a good friend of mine whose wife is Russian. Recently his in-laws visited from Russia. When they came to the states he was surprised to see that many of them had never seen a black person before. They thought it was so weird to see so many hispanics and african americans. What is ironic, is that despite the fact that most of them are very homogeneous in race and culture there still is a great deal of discrimination. They discriminate based on region or way of speaking or social status. We concluded that no matter that discrimination is a terrible habit that will occur no matter how homogeneous a culture is, even if they don't have different races to look at. In my view, it is part of the depravity of man and the inherant sin nature that causes us to act that way. Have a great day all!
