Do you remember what you were praying for when you made it to the canoe? In the dream did you have the feeling that God creating this flood and huricane disaster? If not, who was creating the flood and killing everyone? About the old golfer you shot with a bow and arrow - that's interesting. Could he perhaps be a clouded image or symbol for God as you see him today? An old, worthless, meaningless figure in our world? You probably know I believe in God from my posts. I have found that during my life I've hated God and rejected His powers for most of my life. I innately, and unwillinly, however, still believed He existed. I just thought he was of no good to me. That was enough to save my soul until I was ready to accept His love for me. One of the great things about God's love is that he never abandons us - in spite of ourselves and our self-destructive wishes. I don't know you, devilmunchkin - but I'm willing to bet that although you aren't consciously convinced God exists, you may have a sneaking suspicion and haven't completely rejected the idea of His existence. I'm not the type to explain that God is real to non-believers - it's a journey each person needs to experience on their own. I'm just inviting thoughts for the board to discuss. @freegrace : Thanks for the into on Gnostic Christianity. Are there any books you would recommend on the topic? My pastor friend told me that the Gnostics are very much into denying the body, and thay they place great emphasis on the separateness of the body, mind, and spirit. That's not something I agree with. I work out quite a bit - and have competed in women's body-bulding. I'm not "huge", just porportioned and get ripped easily due to my metabolism. Anyways - when I'm working my body I feel deep connection between my body and spirit. I find working out to be quite meditative and centering. I don't believe God created the mind, body, and spirit as 3 separate entities. While we are human, I believe they are woven together as one. If one suffers, they all suffer. They are connected. During long runs, I often find myself praying and having spiritual visions. This is not a foreign experience to me, as I am part Native American (Lakota Sioux). They are tremendously powerful, and leave me with a warm feeling of peace and connnection with the Great Spitit. I have been writing many of these visions. Maybe someday I'll get brave and post one or 2 if anyone is interested. My point is - I find that the body is connected with the spirit. For thousands of years, cultures have used drugs, exhaustion, sweat-houses, fasting, and endurance exercise as a way to prime the body for receptance of the Great Spirit. These methods alter brain wave activity (specifically increasing beta wave activity), and scientists are proving that we can be more receptive to spiritual promtings in these states. "Mitkuyase Oyasin" - we are all connected The following quote is from a book called "Black Elk Speaks". It speaks of the purposes of pleasure and pain. "You may have noticed that the truth comes into this world with two faces. One is sad with suffering, and the other laughs; but it is the same face, laughing or weeping. When the people are allready in despair, maybe the laughing face is better for them; and when they feel too good and are too sure of being safe, maybe the weeping face is better for them to see." - Black Elk, Native American Prophet I believe this with all my heart. Also, if you have anything you might like to share about the usage of drugs and talking with the Great Spirit, I'd like to hear that as well. You know, any good books on the subject, and stuff. I ask only because there are a couple times that I have gone into a sort of vision myself, or maybe just a "trip" and I have often wondered if this is my sub concious, my spirit, or a faxcismilie of God (or the Great Spirit) itself.... Beautiful Death: I remember i was praying for god not kill me and saying that i did believe, which is odd because i don't. i AM open, not COMPLETELY closed, but the more i look, the less i see a possibility for the existance of a god. yes, i had the feeling that god was doing it all. I'm completely confused about the golfer. To be honest, the whole dream freaks me out and i am completley taken aback by it. Even now. I cannot interpret it for the life of me. It's not that i don't see a god "being no good to me", it's just that it all seems like a myth, mere fancy of the mind to give hope to people who need it, control people who "need controling", and create profit. I see the only different between that our and other religions is just that the Christian one spread. I think if another had spread like the Christian god, we'd be thinking the same thing. I had class all day Saturday and today I was in church all day (not a boring thing, I actually love it). BeautifulDeath - Is that a picture of you? Regarding the Gnostics - They went both ways. They were either highly ascetic or highly licensctious. The basic notion they had was that the material world was bad and the spiritual was good. Consequently, some interpreted that to mean that one should avoid all physical pleasures while others said that since the body is bad anyway, it cannot help but take advantage of the physical pleasures and so it should be done to the maximum degree because it won't affect the naturally good spirit. I've never read a book on them actually. I agree with you. I love to work out. Running gives me a great high. I see the body as a beautiful thing as well as the spirit. In response to Devilmunchkin's question, the main issue that the early church had was that they believed that they had a special route to God which gave them a deeper knowledge than the Bible. Plastic Jesus - I'm sorry the computer crashed. It's really frustrating. Hopefully this week I'll get out a more detailed response to your two questions. Prarie - Are you still around? I want to respond to your question but I haven't seen you for a while. Adolph - why did you change your name? I liked the one you had much better. Thanks. I look forward to your email. My beloved Devilmunchkin - Sorry about your rough week. I can't believe someone had never seen you on this bbs! LOL! You're everywhere. I'm the one that camps out on 2 or 3 threads. What will I do if this ever gets archived? Regarding your dream. Are you sure that at least a piece of it wasn't influenced by Left Behind? Are you sure that the black person wasn't a result of some of the conversations on this thread with Webster? Here are my thoughts: I actually do attribute this dream to God. I believe that God sometimes communicates in our dreams. Yes, I believe that the connection to the end times were God's way of communicate a message to consider His claims. Deep down, I agree with Mike Sorrow, I believe you want to believe in God and the afterlife. However, in your case your bad experience with your family prevents you from doing so. That is why they are in this dream. The flood (interestingly enough the Bible promises that God will never end the world in a flood again) and the deep and shallow water symbolize the results of different storms in your life. I think that the hurricanes symbolize the different challenges that have torn up your family and the warehouse experience is a reuniting with your brother and sister which you have not been able to see much because of your hurricane. Thank God your step dad was not there - I hope that God judged him Just kidding. LOL. Nevertheless, those are some of my thoughts. Talk to ya later! Rictus and Rosa -- This thread had a lot more life than I gave it credit for. Also on the issue of discrimination, I was mainly talking about racial discrimination Rictus when I asked you about discrimination in England. Gender discrimination is rampant just about anywhere and I didn't want someone to think that I was ignoring it. Shokan - If you're ever around, how was your trip with La_Morte? Chaos - Where's that big post you've been promising me? Mike Sorrow - I agree with you on the bumps issue (although I did bump the Tupac post a few times--shame on me). I check this thread every day. Where has Catholicgirl been? Webster - Thanks for contributing to this thread. I appreciate your insights. 2 Thes 2:16 "Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word."
