The UK's newest telescope, VISTA (Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) in the Atacama Desert, Chile. On top of the Cerro Paranal mountain at an altitude of 2,635 metres. VISTA will perform the deepest ever large area surveys of the southern sky, producing atlases of hundreds of millions of celestial objects, from the nearest stars to galaxies at the edge of the universe
