Here are some still shots from some of my favouritest chinese movies....
This one is called "where the legend begins", AKA "Lac Than" and is about a beautiful girl (played by ada choi) in whom two brothers (princes) fall in love. She chooses the younger brother(Steven Ma), much to the disgust of the older one(Moses Chan). He then becomes a ruthless ruler in the end, partly causing his own father's(played by Lau Don) death. I found this movie quite unpredictable ( i thought she'd have gone with the older brother!) with lots of twists and moments of suspense to keep u on the edge of ur seat....
Cast also includes: Sonja Kwok Sin Lei (a step into the past & Fight For Love), Cheng Chi Seng and Gilbert Lam Wai San
I am yet to finish watching this series...cos it isn't all out yet! It is a hilarious film with the craziest jokes and weirdest family ever. The title is "virtues of harmony", AKA "Tinh Nguoi". There isn't a definite plot to the film...it just deals with the typical family problems and then overdoes it a little. When the eldest son in th family marries the princess they end up staying at the palace....leading to even more wacky adventures (especially with the king'z spoilt little sister trying to steal the family's second eldest brother). So far, it's been pretty interesting...although it tends to drag on a bit sometimes....
Cast includes: Nancy Sit (police station no. 7), Frankie Lam, Bernice Liu, Michael Tse, Bondy Chiu and Cutie Mui, Joyce Chen, Johnny Tang & Yvonne Lam
The theme song from this series is gorgeous! It's called "eternal happiness", AKA "Manh Le Quan" and delivers a good plot. The main character is a girl (played by Michelle Yip) who dresses up as a boy and escapes from home when she learns that her father has decided her marriage for her....And it turns out that the guy (Raymond Lam) she ends up sharing a place with is supposed to be her future husband (keeping in mind that he thinks she is a boy)..when he starts to have feelings for this "boy" he gets scared that he might be gay! lol...The prince (Joe Ma) (who later becomes king) also falls deeply in love with her. She ends up with the guy and not the prince...
Cast also includes: Rain Lau (slim chances) & Tavia Yeung (whatever it takes)
aka "Chuyen The Tinh Kinh". Recently finished watching this series called "The Battle Against Evil". I wouldnt say it was bad, but i wouldnt say it was good either. The cast was pretty ordinary with the likes of newcomer Auguste Kwan Tak Fai, Mimi Law Man Chong, and the extremely irritating ghost thingamajig Jade Leung Tsang. Moses Chan (who again playz the villian) gave a good performance. The story is one of betrayal leading to immense evil. The older brother (played by Michael Tong Man Lung), 1000 years after his death, becomes a demon that lives of vengeance, he himself being a victim when his wife has an affair with his younger brother. Auguste plays the good guy (too good to believe - keeps trying to sacrifice himself for the world). So the story drags on until the good guy eventually wins and good triumphs over evil. Didnt like this TVB series at all really, but at least i finished watching it.
aka "Thien Ac Doi Dau". This series features Deric Wan as the main character (pretty good considering his long break). Yoyo Mung plays the girl of his dreams, his penpal for a long long time) They meet up at a dance one night but because he is a burglar, Deric leaves to do a job just as they are about to see each other's faces. He knows what she looks like though. Things get more complicated as the story progresses, the main point is that Deric cant be with Yoyo. As expected they do finally end up together but the final part will either confuse you or leave you guessing. Tavia Yeung and Chin Ka Lok also star in this TVB success.
aka "Bao Dao Tam Chu". Finished this one a while ago...Its the mainland china version of Treasure Raiders and stars Nicky Wu as Tieu Thap Nhat Lang and also Athena Chu, Yu Bo (gawsh he is SO dreamy...hehehe) & Ma Ya Shu. I wont say a lot about the series cos chances are everyone has already seen the TVB version with Felix Wong. But this is DIFFERENT in many ways to that version so I would say to anyone who thinks they know the story that they would be surprised at the changes made in the mainland china version. Personally, I found this series more in depth and of higher quality than the TVB version. (or maybe i just dont like Anne Heung and Felix Wong that much! lol) See it cos I said so...nah, its good...I liked it even though Athena pissed me off a lot of the time for being so girly & weak.
aka "Khach San". I've seen other Korean series before but this one is the one that stood out to me. Basically, it's about the ups and downs of running a hotel & the relationships formed between those involved. Bae Yong Joon, Song Yun Ah, Kim Seung Woo & Song Hae Gyo all star in this series. For me, it made me think about how people can really be impacted on a personal level by a business' failure. The realtionships etc etc in Hotelier I found to be...pretty unexciting and sometimes fustrating. I guess compared to Hong Kong & Taiwan series, I'm still not sure about Korean films. I suppose the storylines arent too bad...but I still havent seen a series from Korea that really packs a punch. Like I said though, Hotelier seemed to stand out amongst the other Korean series I've seen.
aka "Nguoi Cha Tuyet Voi". Just started on this series...Ive heard good things about it & so far it doesnt look too bad! The star studded cast helps too. Includes: Paul Chun Pui, Jay Lau Kam Ling, Flora Chan Wai San, Sonija Kwok Sin Lei, Myolie Wu Hang Yee, Moses Chan Ho, Michael Tong Man Lung, Tsang Wai Kuen, So Chi Wai & Cheng Tsz Shing.
aka "Te Thien Dai Thanh". Another series I've recently started watching (yes I know I know..i'm slow!). I think it's pretty good so far...although the pacing is a bit slow...Maybe that's just my thinking because I know the beginning part from no.1 and 2. I think the themesong is kewt! I actually got it a while ago...before the series even came out - dicky sounds exquisite as usual! But back to the movie...the brilliant cast features Andy Hui Chi On (a small as role...but he's sooo gorgeous!), Charlene Choi, Dicky Cheung Wai Kin, Edmond Leung Hon Man, Eric Kot Man Fai, Gillian Chung, Jimmy Lin Chih Ying, Kristy Yeung Kung Yue, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Pauline Suen Gai Gwan, Sam Lee (gawsh he's cute!), Sammi Cheng Sau Man, William So Wing Hong and Yuki Hsu Huai. Along with others I cant name. One thing I have to say about Dicky is that you csn tell he's getting a little bored with playing the 'funny' guy in some series. If you pay close attention you csn see his expressionless face at times when he's supposed to be cheery! Anyhow, I think Dicky can surely pull this one off, being as talented as he is.
