The Other Side is a Bloomington roots-rock quartet, playing original songs with an original sound, incorporating mandolin and slide guitar.

The band saw its early beginnings three years ago in a weekly Saturday morning jam session. By a simple twist of fate, four forty-somethings had decided to come out of the musical closet at the same time, with varying levels of ability. The band's early efforts were somewhat humorous in retrospect, but the important thing was that they established a camaraderie and an environment that fostered experimentation and personal growth.

After adding a drummer, they began to sound like a band and started playing out on occasion. Although a cover band, they played covers of songs by artists they listened to, such as Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Bob Dylan and Wilco. In this stage of their evolution the band developed a professional approach to gigging; learning to work with the requirements of different venues, different sound systems and learning to perform for the audience.

In January 2006 the band made a decision to change direction from a cover band to an original group. Rather than continuing to play live gigs, the decision was made to spend the next year focusing on developing an original and recognizable sound, writing and arranging original music, playing with more finesse and having a CD recorded within a year. 2006 was an extremely busy and productive year for the band and it paid off. The band's first CD, Brand New Ride, was released in January, 2007. The band's new sound is unmistakable, whether they are playing a hard rocking tune like Texas Hold'em or a mellow song like Brand New Ride.
