"So,"Nick started. He wished he'd talked to his sister more in the past because now, suddenly that he had something to talk to her about, he didn't know how to start a normal conversation.
"Do you have something to say?"she asked, typing rapidly as she spoke, deep into an on-line conversation with some guy from France who had helped her translate stuff for French Class back in high school. They'd struck up a good friendship.
He took a deep breath."I wanted to ask you some stuff about you and Isaac."
Jade froze for a moment, then quickly composing herself, said goodbye to Pierre and signed off-line. She turned the chair towards Nick."Ask away if you must."
Sitting on the couch by her chair, he was beginning to get nervous. He didn't want to pry. He figured the discussion might go better if he explained that first."Look, I don't want to pry into your private life, but I've just been wondering-."
"No Isaac and I are not going out. We're not dating, we're not making out secretly behind everyone's backs and no we have no future plans for a relationship."
He looked surprised.
Grinning, she continued."And don't try and convince me that you weren't about to ask some of those questions, because I know you too well."
"So you've never in you're life thought about Isaac romantically?"
That was a bad question to ask her. A long time ago, long before she knew any of the Hansons, she'd had a little girl fantasy that Isaac Hanson was the guy for her. That, of course, had all changed when she met Taylor.
Taylor had been so sweet and loving that she'd fallen for him immediately and never once looked back. That was, until now. Taylor had helped her through every tough situation in her life, until the one that took his life. She'd not known what to do without him, until Isaac showed her that she could count on him too.
Nick put his arm around Jade."You know, there would be nothing wrong with liking him. Taylor would have wanted you to be happy, to move on. I know I want you to move on. Remember this, Jade. There would be absolutely nothing wrong if you and Isaac liked each other. I just wanted you to know that."He squeezed her shoulders and left her there, sitting in a chair in their living room.
She knew he was right. Taylor would have wanted her to be happy, no matter what.
Then why did she feel so guilty that she was starting to develop feelings for Isaac?
It just felt wrong. Like she was betraying him.
After all he'd given her, she couldn't afford to do that to him.
