Chapter 3 "'Learning' Guitar"

Maybe it was really stupid to lie to him (cause he could have been mad when he found out), but I've always had this fantasy of Isaac Hanson teaching me how to play the guitar, so I decided to play dumb for a little while.

"I could teach you,"he immediately offered, just as I was hoping. He showed me how to hold the guitar and started placing my fingers on the fretboard.

I smiled and relaxed. This was going to be fun.

Marissa

I rolled my eyes, watching Libby as she pretended that she'd never picked up a guitar in her life. How could she sit there, pretending that her fingers couldn't bend to form chords that she'd been playing for years? She was such a weirdo. Why in the world was she doing this?

As I watched Isaac put his arms around her to try and show her how to strum, I knew why. She wasn't weird, she was brilliant.

Taylor glared at me from across the room. Ha ha, I was really starting to get to him. It was working.

Libby

I let him spend about fifteen minutes unsuccessfully trying to teach me how to play "MmmBop".

"You know what?"he said after awhile,"I don't think that you're meant to play the guitar."

I giggled.

"What?"He looked confused.

I pulled a capo off the top of the guitar, put it on the first fret and proceeded to play "MmmBop" perfectly. His mouth dropped open as I played a cute little guitar solo I had copied from a concert video I had in conclusion.

"You, you,"he stammered.

I just laughed. That had been worth the look on his face.

"Ummm, guys?"Walker cleared his throat."Sorry to break up the party but we should be getting back to the hotel."

I looked at Isaac knowing that chances were this would be the last time I'd ever see him.

"Can I have your number?"he asked me, to my surprise, grabbing a piece of paper and a pen.

"Sure,"I said now in a daze, hoping that I could manage to remember my phone number. I jotted it down and handed the paper to him.

"Thanks,"he said, smiling sweetly at me. I melted.

Marissa said goodbye, too (well, to everyone but Taylor), and we found our way to the front exit out of the theatre where our moms were anxiously waiting for us.

"Libby! Where have you guys been?"My mom exclaimed the second she caught sight of us.

I took a deep breath."Mom, you're never going to believe this..."

Isaac

I still couldn't believe that that girl Libby had tricked me into trying to teach her to play the guitar. She was almost as good as me! I will admit, though, I was more than happy to put my arms around her.

She was pretty cool. It was really nice to meet a girl who actually talked to me like I was a normal person and not just someone famous. Plus Jessi and Avie liked her so now I know she's something special. They never like girls I like, especially if they're fans.

Taylor was lying in the bed next to me complaining about that girl Marissa and how much he hates her. Sure he does. Zac, who refuses to share a bed with either one of us, was settled in one of those horribly uncomfortable hotel cots.

"She was just such a jerk!"Taylor concluded.

Zac rolled his eyes."Tay, get a life."

"Zac, get a new line."

Now I was rolling my eyes."Would both of you please shut up? I'm trying to sleep."

"He wants to dream about Libby,"Taylor told Zac."Ike's in love again."

"I am not,"I informed them."But she was nice."

"Ten bucks says he calls her in less than twenty-four hours."Zac risked his life by putting a wager on my usually non-existent love life.

"Deal."

"At least the girl I like doesn't hate me with a passion,"I quoted Marissa."She might actually like me back."

"I don't like Marissa!"Taylor exclaimed.

"Taylor and Marissa sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes, ow!"I heard Taylor tackle Zac, which would probably collapse the cot, but I didn't care because at least now I could go to sleep without them talking. Fighting I could sleep through, my little brother's annoying voices I could not.

I considered waiting a full twenty-four hours to call Libby, but I vetoed that idea and just decided to make Zac twenty bucks.

Libby

"Wouldn't it be cool if he actually called me?"I asked Marissa, staring up at the ceiling of my bedroom, which coincidentally had a poster of Isaac taped directly over my bed.

"Yeah. I still think we must have made that all up."

I sighed."I wouldn't be at all surprised if it had just been our fantasy lives getting out of control."

"Maybe we're delusional,"she suggested.

"Or maybe we're just lucky." I smiled, remembering how he had had his arms around me."Oh yeah, by the way, Marissa, I put your phone number on the same paper for Tay."

"You did not!"she exclaimed, sitting straight up and looking down at me."Oh no, you did."She flopped back down beside me, knowing by the look on my face that I wasn't lying.

I sighed."I should have gotten his cell phone number,"I mused."Then at least I'd have a chance of hearing his voice again."

"You can hear it right now,"Marissa hit the play button on my stereo."See,"she said when "Hand In Hand" began playing."You're hearing it."

I listened to his oh-so-familiar voice. Maybe I would hear from him again. Probably not, but hey, a girl can hope.

According to the clock on my stereo, it was eight-oh-five, but it felt much earlier. The phone rang again.

"Tell whoever it is to go away,"Marissa moaned.

"Yeah?"I murmured into the phone.

"Is this Libby?"

I sat straight up, instantly awake. Marissa moaned again, trying to tug the covers closer around her. I pulled them completely off and as she began to groan hissed,"It's Isaac," at her, which woke her up too.

"Yes, it is,"I told him.

"Oh, hi! This is Isaac,"he told me.

"Really?"I said, trying to sound like I hadn't already known."Hi, Isaac."

"Listen, I was, um, wondering what you and Marissa were doing tonight."

I forced myself to breathe."Well, we were planning on going to this thing at Marissa's school called 'Old Home Day'. It's kind of like a fair, but,"

"That sounds great!"I heard his voice say."Do you think Taylor and I could come?"

I almost choked."Come?"

"Yeah, well, unless you think that it would just turn into like an autograph session or something, it sounds like fun."

My mouth must have been hanging open because Marissa was staring at me with a strange look on her face."What?"she hissed.

"I'm sure that would be fine,"I told him, shrugging at Marissa."I don't think anyone at Marissa's school likes you guys so you should be safe."

"Good. Just give me your address and we'll be at your house at, is five okay?"

"Sure, five's fine."

"What's your address?"

"It's one-eighty,"as I gave him my address Marissa looked like she was going to pass out. I think it was safe to say tonight was going to be another one of those "dream" nights.
