Chapter Five

"Zac? Zac?"By the look on her face, Zac had a bad feeling that Jessi had been calling him for awhile. He looked up expectantly at her.

She rolled her eyes."Dinner's ready."Jessi took a few steps and then called over her shoulder,"Oh, and Mom's gonna want to know where you were last night."

Amazing. He was twenty-three and he still couldn't stay out past midnight without his mother grilling him for information.

However, Diane never pressed him for information. Yes, she wanted to know, it was visible in her face all throughout dinner, but in the end it was Zac who went to her.

"I met a girl."

Diane tried to hide her surprise at what her son was telling her. Zac had hardly dated in the past years, so this came as quite a shock. The fact alone that he was telling her about this girl meant that he at least considered it serious. That was a big deal.

"I'm canceling the rest of the tour."Diane's head jerked up in surprise. He expected that, had been prepared for it. Now he would explain.

"It's time I set out some priorities in my life, Mom. Kristin is it. I need all my time to figure out where things are going to go between us. I have to."

Diane took a deep breath."I'm so proud of you, Zac. I hope you know that."

"I know."
