Note! These typefaces have not been updated in quite a while (see dates below), and the Phlegm Pot is no longer able to maintain them for the ever changing computer world. Therefore, they might or might not work with your system. Unfortunately, we cannot help you make it work if it doesn't beyond the troubleshooting comments below. - Sincerely, the Phlegm Pot.
About the typefaceFollowing intensive work by The Phlegm Pot's finest scientists, typographers, iconographers, artists, and historians, we are proud to announce the availability of the Gnommish typeface for Windows and Mac. This is a Truetype font with 28 characters; including one corresponding to each letter in the English alphabet, plus the Gnommish 'space' and 'period'. Note: Version 1.10 for Windows includes 31 characters, with the addition of the a-umlaut (ä), o-umlaut (ö), and the u-umlaut (ü). The Gnommish typeface is mono case, with no distinction between upper and lower case. Additionally, it does not include any punctuation except for the 'period' (an arrow that marks the end of a sentence). Quotation marks, question marks, commas, or any other devices common to English and many other languages are not used in Gnommish, and are not part of the typeface. At this time, no there is no indication that Gnommish includes the numerals zero through nine (0-9). There is some speculation among our finest minds that speakers of Gnommish use a Binary number system, however this has not yet been proven. This issue might be resolved following the Winter Symposium "Current Studies in Gnommish: From Preawareness to the Near Present", to be held at a secret location at or around Summer Solstice 2003. In the meantime, it is recommended that one spell out any numbers, rather than use the numeric equivalent. Version 1.00 for the Mac of the typeface does not yet support characters beyond the twenty-six letters of the English alphabet. In fact, none are known besides ä, ö, and ü (supported with Version 1.10 onwards). Please inform us if you have discovered others. Thanks and AcknowledgementsSpecial Thanks go to Maria Hughes and Joe Rogala who kindly fixed some problems with the typeface and compatability problems it had with certain Windows systems. Characters in the TypefaceDownloadsThe latest version of the Gnommish typeface is 1.10a, only available at this time for Windows. Version 1.10 is updated to include three additional characters: ä, ö, and ü. Gnommish version 1.00

TroubleshootingProblem: The font doesn't
work on your system. Solution: Another Artemis Fowl Visitor makes the following suggestion: Solution: And yet another Visitor suggests the following, "If it doesn't work, extract it from the compressed file or folder then drag it into the fonts page." Problem: Using Adobe
Photoshop and ImageReady on the Mac -- and perhaps other
programs on other platforms as well -- the typeface does
not appear. Problem: An actual space
occurs between words, rather than the Gnommish dot. Problem: Text begins with an
'E', but the first character does not appear on the
screen. Problem: The 'E' that the typeface produces looks nothing like the version in your book. Releases and RevisionsVersion 1.00, released October 18, 2001 for Mac and Windows: The First version of the font, with 28 characters. Version 1.10, released October 25, 2001 for Windows: Updated to include ä, ö, and ü. Version 1.10a, released January 16, 2003 for Windows: This is the same version as 1.10, with some compatability problems fixed with some Windows systems. Please contact thephlegmpot@yahoo.com regarding suggestions for future revisions of the Gnommish typeface. Note! Gnommish, like all languages, evolves and changes over time. The Gnommish discussed on these pages was completely correct according to the first printing of Artemis Fowl in the United States. Variations exist! For instance, the 'E' sometimes appears above the first letter in a word. Sometimes a 'double-E' is represented by two marks on top of each other. The discussions and fonts found on this site are not "wrong", they simply might be based on a slightly different verison than you have. Do not email me about the 'E'! - Sincerely, The Phlegm Pot |
