Pokémon RED & BLUE Walkthrough

When you start the game, you will be in your own house. Go to the PC in the corner and withdraw the potion that is there. You can talk to Mum if you want, and get used to what the buttons do..... they'll do much more later on in the game.

Exit your house, and head north into the grass. Prof. Oak will stop you and tell you how dangerous it is in the grass without protection. He'll then take you back to his lab and you can choose from 1 of 3 Pokémon. They are Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander. You should choose your favourite.

After you have chosen, your rival will then chose. He will choose the Pokémon that has a type advantage over yours.

When you try to leave, he'll challenge you to a battle. This just to get you used to the style of battling, so it doesn't matter if you win or loose this battle. You should win it, to get money.

Now leave the lab, head through the grass north of your home town, Pallet Town. You'll now be on Route 1. At the top of Route 1 is Viridian City. Heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Centre, and then go to the Poké Mart.

When you talk to the assistant, he will give you Oak's Parcel. You have to take this back to Prof. Oak in Pallet Town. When you give it to him, he will give you and your rival each a Pokédex.

The Pokédex is a high-tech encyclopedia that'll record data on Pokémon that you've seen or caught.

Now head back to Viridian City. You should buy Poké Balls from the Poké Mart. Then head north and back to Viridian City. Go through and head north. At the top of Viridian City is Viridian Forest. wind your way through the maze and you'll end up on the outskirts of Pewter City.

In Pewter City, find Brock's Gym on the far side of the city. Brock trains ground type Pokémon. Use a grass or water type to beat him. When you do, you will recive a Boulderbadge and TM34. This contains the move Bide.

You should now go on to Rock Tunnel which is to the right of Pewter City, at the end of a long lane. Once inside, you'll have to keep treking through the cave and you'll eventually find the way out by going to the furthest stairs on each level.

Throughout your venture in Rock Tunnel, you will first meet up with the evil Team Rocket. Thios is a gang of Pokémon criminals who are out to steal every Pokémon and to use them for their own devious deeds. Here, they are looking for Pokémon fossils.

On the third floor, follow the path through and you'll end up battling a person for possesion of two fossils. When he is defeated, you can choose one of them. These won't be much use untill later in the game. The Helix fossil is Omanyte, and the Dome fossil is Kabuto.

Once outside again, you'll have to get to Cerulean City by going to your right. Once there, head north to a place called Nugget Bridge and you'll find your rival there. He'll challenge you to a battle. This battle should be fairly easy, his Pokémon will be around about L15. After the battle, you should go and heal your Pokémon. After you have, return to this location.

If you've noticed, there is a bike shop in the southern regions of Cerulean City, where you can get a bike. But who has $1,000,000 spare? Never mind..... there's always another way, come back later.

Head up Nugget Bridge and you should run into five consecutive trainers. You should heal your Pokémon after each battle to ensure a fair fight each time. When you beat all five, talk to the person at the top of Nugget Bridge and he'll give you a Nugget. This is usless, but it can be sold for $5,000! However, once you recive the Nugget, this nice person turns out to be a Team Rocket member! He wants you to join Team Rocket, and when you refuse to, he'll battle you! Win this to get more money, and give your Pokémon experience.

The next thing to do is to head right. At the end of this short passage, you will find Sea Cottage. This is important in your quest..... why not have a look inside? It'll be superising....

At first glance, the room in the Sea Cottage seems to be empty. Don't leave right away.... talk to the Pokémon that you can see in the room. It talks! This is because it is really Bill, the world famous Pokémaniac! He'll tell you that his teleporter experiment has gone wrong, and he needs your help. When he goes into his machine, go over to his computer, and press A. Bill will now come out as a human. As a reward for your help, he'll give you an S.S.Anne ticket. Exit and re-enter the house and look on the PC to put Eevee, Jolteon, Vaporeon and Flareon in your Pokédex. You won't actually get these Pokémon, they'll be in your Pokédex as seen Pokémon.

Head back to Cerulean City. Now your Pokémon should have enough experience to battle Misty in her Gym. She uses water types. This'll be a decent battle, and should be really easy with an electric type, and fairly easy with a grass type. When you beat her, she'll give you a Cascadebadge and TM 11. This contains Bubblebeam.

Now it's time to see what's going on with that police officer at the top right of the city. ( Guarding a house ) Now that he's moved aside, you can enter the house. Oh look! Someone's made a hole in the wall at the back! Leave the house through this hole, and you'll see a mysterious person there. Talk to him, and you'll find out that he's a Team Rocket member! He's easily beaten, and you'll retrive the Dig TM. TM28.

Now head south. You'll now be on Route 5. At the end of this are two buildings. The one that you have to go through the grass to reach is the Day Care Centre. You can leave one of your Pokémon here, and it will grow a level every now and then. But do this at your own risk, Pokémon stats will lower by about 10%.

The other building is actually an underground passasge way which will lead to Route 6. You won't be able to avoid all trainer battles here, but there aren't too many of them. At the end of Route 6 is Vermillion City.

Vermilion City has a few interesting things to see, the first of which is the house left of the Pokémon Center. Talk to the man inside and he'll give you an Old Rod, which you can fish with in any water that you see. This rod is only good for a bad thing..... catching Magikarp. Magikarp only know Splash, but do learn Tackle at L15. They pay off later on when they evolve into Gyarados. At L20.

After that, go to the building that is left of the Poké Mart has a special offer.... for the first time in the game, you can trade actually inside the game! No link cables required! This particular offer is for Farfetch'd, which you can have for a Spearow. Trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd here. If you go into the building next to that, you'll find yourself in a special place...... where trainers brag about their Pokémon. Talk to the chairman, and listen to him go off about his favourite Pokémon, Rapidash. If you listen to him blabber all the way through, you'll get a reward. A Bike Voucher, which you can trade for a bike in the bike shop in Cerulean City.

Now it's time to head south. Here, you'll find a port, if you go past the Poké Mart, and go foward a few paces, then turn downwards. Follow the pathway along, and you'll eventually end up in front of a guard. This is who you have to show the S.S.Anne Ticket to. He'll then allow you to proceed.

You'll now be on board the S.S.Anne, but why isn't she sailing? The Captain's sick, and needs a little help. But you'll have to find him first. In each of the cabins, you'll find a trainer, who'll want to battle you. In some cabins you may be challenged up to three times, in others, not even once! If you go to the cabin that's one from the end, you'll find TM08. this is Body Slam. Now head to the right end of this floor, and go south untill you see some stairs. Yep, you've geussed it. Go down them.

This floor is a dead end, but is worthwhile entering for Pokémon training and items. ( Ether, TM44 ( Rest ) and Max Potion ) Now go back up to the first level.

No go over to the other side of the ship. The first stairs you see you should ignore for now, but go to the stairs down below. You'll end up in the kitchen, and in the third bin on the far side of the room, you'll find a Great Ball. This has a higher capture rate than a Poké Ball. Now go back to the first level, and up those other stairs you saw earlier.

If you head straight down, you'll go along an empty corridor ( except for one person ) and end up at the deck. There's a few trainers here, but nothing else. When you are done, come back to the second level.

The man in the first cabin will tell you about Snorlax, who is the laziest of al Pokémon. It'll cause problems later on. There are also trainer battles and items to be had here ( Max Ether and Rare Candy ) Before you walk past the last cabin here, leave the ship, heal your Pokémon and come back.

Why? Go to the end of this level, and there he is again. Your rival. He'll now have a stronger team, but yours should be stronger. You'll also notice his choice from the lab has evolved. When he is beaten, procced upwards and up the stairs. This is what we want.

The Captain's here, but isn't to well..... go and have a look in the bin. It won't take long to figure out he's seasick. Go talk to him about it. You did it! Well sort of... he's well enough to give you HM01 ( Cut ). Now, you can leave the ship.

HM01 is an important technique, it'll allow you to chop down small shrubs in your way, but only when a Pokémon has been taught it, and you have the Thunderbadge. However, if you do teach this to a Pokémon, it cannot be forgotten, so choose wisely.

Bye bye S.S.Anne! After you leave the S.S.Anne, she'll set sail. She will never come back. Some people that if you let all of your Pokémon faint whilst still on board, she won't leave. But this means doing it every time afterward, and has yet to be proved that it works.

It's time for your third Gym match. This time, it's with the Lightning American, Lt. Surge!

To get into the Gym, you'll have to Cut the little shrub in the way, and walk round to the front. Once inside, you'll see that Lt. Surge is so of you, that he's locked himself away! You'll have to look in the bins for the switches, and when you find the first one, the second one is right next to it! Just try to keep out of the way of the trainers, unless you want a battle. When you do reach Lt. Surge, you should have a rock or ground type with you, and this one's a sintch. When he's defeated, you'll recive a Thunderbadge and TM24, which is Thunderbolt.

Head to the east. There are a few trainers here, and right at the end of it is a little customs house. On the top floor, you'll find Prof. Oak's Aide who'll give you an Itemfinder if you have 30 different kinds of Pokémon.

To the east of Vermillion City, there is also Diglett's Cave. This is a passageway which leads back to Pewter City. Within Diglett's Cave, you can catch Diglett and Dugtrio. As soon as you exit Diglett's Cave, head south an look for Prof. Oak's Aide, who'll give you HM05 (Flash), but only if you have 10 different kinds of Pokémon.

Once you get to Pewter City, you can ener the museum's back door and recive Old Amber, which will become........ Aerodactyl, but only later on in the game.

Head back to Cerulean City. Once there, go down that pathway you used earlier to leave Cerulean City, and about where the Gym is, turn to the right. There is a shrub there to be Cut. You're now on Route 9. This leads to Route 10.... by going through Rock Tunnel.

Isn't it dark inside Rock Tunnel? To turn the lights on, use HM05, Flash. You'll have to follow the path around - there are no shortcuts this time. After you've gone down four sets of stairs, follow the path round, and you'll find the exit if you go south just after the third trainer. Then you'll be on Route 10. This is only a small, short pathway with a few trainers about. Head southwards, and you'll be at your next destination.

Lavender Town is very small, but has a lot to offer. There is a Name Rater, who can rate and change the nicknames of your Pokémon if you want him to. There is also Pokémon Tower, where dead Pokémon are buried. This'll be important later. But for now, we have to leave. Head to the west, and onto Route 8.

Not much here, just a few trainers and if you have Cut handy, a few Pokémon. Get to the other end where a trainer is all alone, and head into the small building at the top. This underground passage will take you to Route 7. A short little route with only one place to go. Follow it round and you'll now be in Celadon City.

Celadon City is big. Very big. But you'll easily find your way around. The first thing to see is the Celadon Mansion. Only good if you're interested in exploring, or are just curious. For the rest of us, and when the curious and exploring types are done, it's time to go in the back way. You'll have to go right around and in the back of the building. There's no door here, just walk through the wall. Follow the stairs through, and you'll find a little building inside. Go in. On the table you'll see a Poké Ball, complete with Pokémon! And it's all yours! Eevee. This is a special Pokémon, which can evolve into three diferent kinds of Pokémon, depending on which elemental stone you use. ( These can be brought in the Celadon City Supermarket for $2,100 ) The Fire Stone evolves it into Flareon. The Water Stone evolves it into Vaporeon. The Thunder Stone, - Jolteon.

Now, come out of the Mansion, do some shopping in the Celadon City Supermarket, heal your Pokémon, and then get ready for a Gym match.

Celadon's Gym is located by going to the very bottom of the city, at the west side. In order to get there, you must go over to the east side, find a shrub below a Team Rocket member, Cut it, and walk along untill you reach the Gym. You'll need a Pokémon that knows Cut on you for this Gym.

Erika is at the back of the Gym, and is the one that looks like she dosen't belong there. She is very quiet, and doesn't really want to fight, but since that is your request, she will do so. This'll be a respectable battle, because her Pokémon are treated with love, so they will try harder to win for her. A fire of bug type'll help you win. When you do win, you'll get the Rainbowbadge and TM21, Mega Drain.

Now, it's play time! Return to the main part of Celadon City and head to the house with the pool of water outside. Go to the right. There are two buildings here. you need to go into the first one. ( The one nearest the house with the pool of water in front of it. ) This is Celadon City's Game Corner. Don't bother with the machines yet.... there is something more important to be done first. Is that a Team Rocket member at the back of the room? Go talk to him. He'll battle you. When he's defeated, take a look at that poster he was guarding. There's asecret switch underneath... press it! Go along to your right, and you'll find that a secret door has been opened.

There is an Escape Rope in the bottom left hand corner of this room, and two Team Rocket members who'll both challenge you. Also, try using the Itemfinder in here. Go down the stairs.

The second floor has only one Team Rocket member here. The items you encounter are ( in order you see them ) Nugget, TM07 ( Horn Drill ) , Moon Stone and Super Potion. To get through the arrow maze, do this.

1. Bottom arrow.

2. Down past the first arrow you see, then when you see two together, top arrow.

3. Top arrow pointing right.

4. Arrow facing right.

5. Top arrow.

6. Right one space, down, and along the arrow.

Now go down the stairs that you can see in front of you. There will be two Team Rocket members here, and in the top left hand corner, a Hyper Potion. Now go back down the stairs, through the arrows untill you reach the only Team Rocket member on this floor.

There are stairs above him. you need to go up these.

On this floor, if you go down straight away, you'll find a Team Rocket member, and then TM10 ( Double-Edge ). If you go to the left a little, then down, you'll have to go through some more arrows.

1. Down, take a step Up, and you get a Rare Candy.

2. Return to the start, over to the furthest arrow at the top on the left hand side.

3. Down, then over the arrow.

4. Back two steps. Face downward.

5. Head downward untill you see two sets of arrows. Don't use either of these.

6. Face left. Keep walking untill you end up at the wall.

7. Go downwards to another double set of arrows.

8. Top arrow.

Now that you've beaten the arrow maze, you'll probably have to battle the Team Rocket member that you see there. ( He can be avoided ). Go through the gap in the walls, head right, then up untill you reach some stairs. Use them!

The items on this floor are: HP Up and TM02 ( Razor Wind ). Battle the Team Rocket member, and win the match. Now that he's beaten, talk to him about it. He'll drop the Lift Key! now head back to the second floor.

Go through the maze of arrows as described before, and then go past the stairs, and into the green thing that is the lift. You can use it to reach the 4th Basement Beat the two Team Rocket members, and the barrier will open, and for the first time in the game, you will duel Giovanni.

Giovanni is the boss of Team Rocket. He's the one that stole the thing that you're actually here for. Beating him is the only way to recive it.

After beating him, you'll recive the Silph Scope. This allows you to see ghosts. Get out of the entire building, and now return to Lavender Town. There's some unfinished business to do here.

Now that you're in Lavender Town again, it's time to enter the Pokémon Tower. This is on the far side of the town.

Once inside, you have to go up the stairs on the right, to the next floor... and there he is again. Your rival. As usual, you'll have to beat him and leave him in the dust. Once beaten, he leaves...... but when will we see him again? Do we really want to? Now procced to the stairs at the other side of the room. If you do this for the next three floors, you'll reach the sixth floor, where the stairs you have to take can be found in the southern regions of the room. But it isn't a case of simply going down them..... a Pokémon spirit is in the way. In order to pass, you'll have to knock it out. You can't capture it. It's the Cubone's mother, Marowak.

Now you can safely proceed down te stairs. On floor 7, they're back again! Team Rocket. ( They're both in the Pokémon Tower, your rival and Team Rocket ). When they are beaten, go on up. At the top of the floor is Mr.Fuji.

You should have collected these items in Pokémon Tower:

Escape Rope, Awakening, Elixer, HP Up, Nugget, X Accuracy and Rare Candy.

Have a conversation with Mr. Fuji and you'll retirn to his house. He then gives you your Poké Flute.

You've been to Cerulean, Lavender, Vermilion and Celadon, but there's a city in the middle of all these.... which is your next destination. To get there, you'll have to go through one of the gates. To make the guard let you through, give him a drink of something, the ones you can get in Celadon City Supermarket Vending Machines.

Once into Saffron City, you'll notice all of Team Rocket is here. Let's get rid of them. Go into the tallest building you can find, which is Silph. Co. Headquaters.

Go to the fifth floor. Go down past the scientist and where there is a Team Rocket member diagonally across from a warp panel, warp and then warp back in order to get by the warp panel. To your right you will find the card key which allows you to unlock the doors in the Silph Co. Office Headquaters. Go to the ninth floor and go past where the Pokémon Nurse is, up past the Team Rocket member, and go to the warp panel on your right. And there he is. Your rival will be waiting for you there. You'll now notice that his choice form the lab has evolved into its final form. Don't get discouraged.... don't forget, you've beaten him before, and you can do it again.

Talk to the other person in the room and he will give you Lapras!

Then go to the warp panel at the botton of the room. Go down and through the door to Giovanni. This will be easy if you have a water or ice type.

When he is defeated, talk to the chairman at the back of the room, and he'll give you a Master Ball - this'll catch any Pokémon regardless of level, but you can only use it once, so choose carefully.

To the south of the city you'll find Mr.Psychic's house, talk to him and you'll recive TM29, which is Psychic.

Now that Team Rocket are gone, it's time to head north, to the Gyms. One is Saffron City's Official Gym, and the other was once Saffron City's Official Gym, but is now better known as the Fighting Dojo.

You should go into the Fighting Dojo first. Use a psychic type to easily beat them all. once this simple task is done, you'll end up in front of the Karate Master. He's going to be a little harder to beat, but will be beaten. when he is, you get to choose either Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan.

Now, go into the Official Gym. in order to reach Sabrina, always go to the warp pannel in front of you. When you do reach her, you should have a strong psychic type or a water/ice type that knows a hard hitting move. At all costs, do not use any fighting types, they'll be knocked out in one hit. When she is beaten, you'll recive a Marshbadge and TM46. This is Psywave. Now, leave the Gym, and return to Lavander Town.

Once there, leave the town via the south exit. You'll be on a sort of fishing port, all the trainers are fishermen, and you can fish here too, with your rather pathetic Old Rod. About half way down you'll come across a Snorlax blocking your way. Save the game here.

It won't do much except lay there and block your way. In order to move it, play the Poké Flute. It'll now attack in a grumpy rage.At L30, this'll make a decent Pokémon for anyone. It knows rest which may make it harder to beat. You're better off catching this than just knocking it out.

When you've caught it, or if you knock it out by accident, turn off the game and try again.

When you're happy that its gone, keep on going downward. After a while, you'll notice a small house. Go in. Talk to the person in the house, and he'll give you a Good Rod. This'll catch a whole lot better Pokémon in the water than the Old Rod.

The items you see here are TM16, which contains Pay Day. This goes great with Pikachu and/or Mewoth, and you'll recive money each time you use it in a batle that you win! The other item is Iron.

Go down right to the end of this Route ( 12 ) head to the left. you'll now be on Route 13. Head through the winding maze that is Route 13, to end up on Route 14.

Route 14 is simple. Just go down. Now you're on Route 15. There are a few trainers here, but they'll be easily beaten. At the end of Route 15, you'll go through a gate that leads to the next town.

Here it is. Fuchisa City. Go straight down, and you'll reach two small houses. Enter the one on the left. The person inside will give you a Super Rod. This will always catch Pokémon at L40, and is more reliable than the other two. It also catches the widest range of Pokémon.

Now, leave the house, go past the other one, this isn't important right now. Then head up north. When you are able to, go to the left. Keep going untill you see a passageway that leads downwards. Go down it, to the end, then turn right. You'll now be able to go up on a platform where you'll find a Pokémon Centre. Heal your Pokémon, and then go to the other end of the platform, where you'll find the next Gym.

This is Fuchsia City's Gym. The leader here is Koga. He uses posion type Pokémon. The recomended Pokémon type to use is psychic. You can also use fire as another resort, and even water and electric. Just beware of posion and sleep! When he's beaten, you'll recive the Soulbadge and TM06, Toxic.

If you head to the north of the city, you'll find the famous Safari Zone.

The premise here is simple. You have to pay $500 to get in, but it's worth it! All you do is catch Pokémon. You have an oppertunity to catch whatever comes out! Some Pokémon can only be found here, in the Safari Zone.

You'll pick up these items:

Start Area:

Nugget

Area 1:

TM37 ( Egg Bomb )

Max Potion

Full Restore

Carbos

Area 2:

TM40 ( Skull Bash )

Protein

Area 3:

Max Revive

Max Potion

Gold Teeth

TM32 ( Double Team )

As mentioned above, Gold Teeth are in Area 3. These are important later on. Also in Area 3, just past where TM32 is, you'll find the Secret House. When you go inside, the kind man inside will give you HM03. This contains Surf, which will allow you to cross waters. Teach it to an aquatic Pokémon, and swim! Well, Surf on your Pokémon anyway.

When all this is done in the Safari Zone, go to that house next to where you got the Super Rod, and go inside. Give the Gold Teeth to the Warden inside. He'll now speak English, and as a reward for your help,he shall give you HM04. This is Strength. It will allow you to move certain large boulders that are in your way.

Now, we have a little unfinished business to attend to. Go back to Celadon City. To the west is the Cycle Path. But before you get there, you'll notice that there is another Snorlax there. Use the same procedure as before to deal with it. When it's gone its time to get on to Cycle Path ...... but wait whats that shrub? Cut it, and see where it takes you. Go through the gate that you can see, and you'll find a little house all alone. Inside will be a girl who probably wants to be left alone, but talk to her, and you'll recive HM02, Fly. Use this to Fly anywhere, provided that you've already been there. Now you can go onto Cycle Path. Going down here will take you back to Fuchsia City.

Now that you have all 5 HM's, or rather you should have, getting about will be much more easier. From Fuchsia City, Fly back to Cerulean City. Head along the passageway to the right, so that you end up just outside Rock Tunnel. Don't go in this time. Surf in the water, and follow it round untill it takes you to the Power Plant. Get out of the water, and go inside. This was once a source of power, but it is now no longer. Its now become a home for Pokémon. Of the electric type. As for items, they are: Carbos, TM33 ( Reflect ) TM25 ( Thunder ) Rare Candy and HP Up.

When you get to the bird at the end, save the game before you talk to it.

This bird is actually Zapdos, one of the three Legendary Birds. Zapdos is the bird of the electric element. It'll be at L50 when you battle it, so weaken it, and then put it to sleep, and try and catch it. Once satisfied that you've caught/beaten it, there is a small gap in the wall that is an exit. Leave through here. Now, lets go home.

Fly back to Pallet Town. Now that you have Surf, you can leave via the south of your home town. Keep Surfing down the water. There will be a few trainers along here. As well as lots of Tentacool. Lots of them. They'll annoy you eventually. But at the end of this water route, you'll reach Cinnabar Island.

A small little island, Cinnabar Island has much to offer. First, go into the building that is at the top left hand corner of the Island. This is Pokémon Mansion. You need to reach the third floor.

Do this by going up the first stairs you see, then go right then up ( on the same floor ) and up the stairs that is above two beds.

Go to the statue and press the secret switch. Go down, through the newly opened gate, and jump down the gap on the left hand side. You'll be back on the first floor, but in a blocked of location. Go down the stairs that are also in this part.

On this floor, you need to find the Secret Key. It's in the top left hand corner of the room. Get to it by going around the passafeway at the top of the room.

Other items in here are:

Escape Rope,

Carbos,

Calcium,

Iron,

Max Potion,

Rare Candy,

TM22 ( Solarbeam )

Full Restore and

TM14 ( Blizzard )

Now leave the entire building, and head to the building below where you are. This is the Pokémon Lab.

In the far room of Pokémon Lab you can drop of Old Amber/Helix Fossil/Dome Fossil ( one at a time! ) and come back later to see what has happened! You can also trade Pokémon and get TM35 ( Metronome ) in other rooms.

Now. go battle the Gym Leader! You'll need the Secret Key to get in. The leader here is Blaine. This is an easy battle with a water type that knows Surf, and at all costs, use no ice or grass type Pokémon! When  Blaine is beaten, you'll recive a  Volcanobadge and  TM38 (Fire Blast).

Fly to Fucshia City, and  Surf south of the town, keep going down, turn roght when you can go down no more, then get on to dry land. You are now at Seafoam Island.

Once in, go straight up, and down the stairs. On the next floor, get off the platform that you are on, go to the bottom of the room, then right, and onto the platform that is up the stairs. Go down the stairs in the middle of the platform.

Now go to the far left, down the stairs off the platform, and down the stairs that lead to another level. On the new floor, go up, right, down, right, and down the stairs. Go along the floor, untill you find boulders that can be moved by using Strength. Push two of these down through the holes. Now, you jump down a hole too. You will now have dammed the river flow. You'll instantly be on your Surfing Pokémon, and be in some water. Surf upwards untill you reach another platform. Another Legendary Bird is here. Save the game before confrontation. this one is Articuno. Catch it if you want. When happy with the result, leave Seafom Island.

Now, head back to Viridian City. Go to the Gym over on the right hand side of the city. The leader here is Giovanni. The ground type Pokémon here are easily beaten with the Surf attack. Your rewards for your victory are the Earthbadge and TM27, which is Fissure.

Now we head to the west of Viridian City. Walk along the path to the end of it. But it won't be that easy. Your rival will meet you half way there. As usual, beat him! After you do, keep on going to the end of the path. Jump over the ledge, along the left, up and into the building.

You'll now have to go up a that goes straight up. Every person that you pass will ask you if you have a certain badge. If you have it, ( which you should ) they'll let you pass. When you reach the top, go into the building. You are now on Victory Road.

In here, use Strength to move boulders onto buttons to move barriers out of the way. In order to finally get out, you'll need to push a boulder down a hole. By the way, you'll encounterthe last Legendary Bird, Moltres. Use the same procedure as before to catch it.

When you get out, go up, wind your way through the mini maze of statues, and enter the building that you see.

No turning back now! It's time to battle the Elite Four! You'll firstly be in a room complete with Pokémon Centre and Poké Mart.

Once you go through the door at the back of the room, you'll start the last battles of the game.

You're on your own now.
