Lisa Gay Hamilton
Rebecca Washington on The Practice
For Lisa Gay Hamilton, the last 12 months have been extremely busy. In addition to her starring role on "The Practice," she appeared in both Jonathan Demme's "Beloved" opposite Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover, and in Clint Eastwood's suspense drama, "True Crime." She also starred in the controversial ABC movie, "Swing Vote," with Andy Garcia and Harry Belafonte. She spent the summer of 1999 shooting a role in the upcoming feature film, "Amanda America," opposite Sam Waterston.
A graduate of the Juilliard School's drama division, Hamilton's extensive theater credits include "Measure for Measure" at the New York Shakespeare Theater Festival, opposite Kevin Kline and Andre Braugher. She also starred in the original Broadway company of August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson."
Hamilton earned the Ovation nomination for best actress for her work in Athol Fugard's play, "Valley Song," at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. That performance, in the role of Veronica, also won her an Obie Award, the Clarence Derwent Award and a Drama Desk nomination.
Her other television work includes appearances on "Law & Order" and "Homicide." Film credits include Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" and the independent releases, "Palookaville" and "Drunks."
