Marla Sokoloff
Lucy Hatcher on The Practice

As the newest addition to the award-winning series, "The Practice," Marla Sokoloff has certainly caught the attention of the show's audience with her portrayal of the feisty, troublemaking receptionist, Lucy Hatcher.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Marla moved to Los Angeles five years ago and enrolled in the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, where she studied theater and music. She won numerous awards and accolades for her singing -- and even performed the national anthem at such high-profile events as the Oakland A's baseball games and for the U.S.O.

After making the move to Los Angeles, Marla began landing roles on several popular television series, including "Home Improvement," "Party of Five," "3rd Rock From the Sun" and "7th Heaven." She also starred in the feature films, "The Babysitters Club" and "True Crime," opposite Alicia Silverstone. Marla also co-starred opposite John Hurt in the dramatic independent movie, "The Climb."

Marla recently completed production on Phoenix Pictures' "I'll Be You," a modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac tale set in high school. Co-starring with Shane West and Ben Foster, Marla plays Maggie, the best friend of Ryan (West) and, ultimately, the girl of his dreams. The film is scheduled for a 2000 release.

Marla currently resides in Los Angeles.

Marla Sokoloff
By Sarah Warner

Born on December 19th, 1981(she's only 18!) in the city of Danville, California, Marla Sokoloff had her sights set on stardom from day one. As a youngster she participated in community theater around Danville until she joined the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) in San Francisco. It was during an ACT production that she was discovered by an agent from LA who tried to convince her Mom that Marla should pack up and head towards the big-time: Hollywood. At the time she was only ten. Two years later, after begging and nagging her mom, they went down to LA for the Pilot season. There, she landed the role of Gia on "Full House," and said good-bye to Danville, hello Hollywood.

Since then, she has won parts on "Home Improvement," "Party of Five," "Seventh Heaven," and finally as Sally on "The Practice;" not to mention roles in movies The Babysitter's Club and True Crime. The dedicated actress enrolled in the Los Angeles High School of Performing Arts and finished up at Excelsior. Her high school experience was a lot different than the experience of the character Maggie in Whatever It Takes.

"My graduating class at Excelsior was about twenty people," Marla said. "So if you wanted be part of any sort of clique, you were basically by yourself because there weren't that many people."  Sound like the ideal situation? Maybe for some, but in her spare time she was working. She shoots for "The Practice" from July to May. Marla is unsure about what her future plans are but she has been reading scripts here and there hoping to land more movies in the future as well as go to college.
"Eventually I want to go to college to study journalism," Marla said. "But right now, with the show and future possibilities, it's too much. I'm in no hurry though."
In her spare time Marla enjoys playing her guitar, writing music, singing and hangin' out with friends. Her favorite pop divas are Fiona Apple, Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell.
