Slightly out of 'Practice'

Dylan and Shiva McDermott

As tough as it is to leave New York, getting here isn't easy, either.

No one knows that better at the moment than Dylan McDermott. "The Practice" star really had to lean on his boss, executive producer David E. Kelley, to allow him to bail out of shooting the series in Los Angeles this week so he could be in Manhattan with his wife, Shiva.

On Tuesday, the couple will hit the Tribeca Rooftop for a launch party of the Lanvin fragrance Oxygene. Thursday is Shiva's birthday, and on Saturday McDermott will be front and center at Madison Square Garden for the V-Day rally and star-studded performance of Eve Ensler's play "The Vagina Monologues." McDermott surely didn't want to miss that, considering that his wife is in it and Ensler is his stepmother.
