The
Best Is Yet To Come
Compared to previous seasons, Manchester
United have been disappointing in the opening half. Sir Alex Ferguson however,
was quick to defend this and had this to say :
"We've not been at our best
that's for sure, but there have been major changes at the club since the start
of the season and it does take time for the team to settle. A lot of
players that have came to us didn't even know a word of English so obviously
they would struggle. However as we come to the halfway point in the season, we
are confident we will find our true form and carry our title threat till the
very last week."
When asked about the disappointing exit from
the Champions League into the UEFA Cup, Sir Alex said:
"It is a massive disappointment for us of course. We believed that we were strong enough to win the Champions League this year however, it wasn't meant to be. Thankfully, we are still in Europe and we must now aim to win the UEFA Cup. We are strong enough to do so and will make this one of our main targets as of now."
'Super'
Wolves finally join European contention
After
Wolves received a £120 million cash injection, it was thought that they could
finally be the team to knock Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea from their
helm at the top of the table, however that hasn't been the case. After a mixed
season, it seems as though the new Wolves have found their feet. Manager Dave
Jones had this to say :
"It's took much longer than I
anticipated for the team to gel together. I expected us to be in the top
6 by now or at least the top 10. Player communication has been one of the
factors stopping us from gelling but things are finally starting to take some
shape and the player's are almost completely settled. We are now real
challengers for a place in Europe next season and it will be our main ambition
to achieve that place."
"Filippo has been incredible for us. The number of goals that he has scored in his short amount of time here is phenomenal. He will be a major factor in us gaining success this season and I'd put him right up there with the best in the world. There are a few more players I would like to bring in to give us the strength to challenge for the next half of the season. I will mention no name's only that he is a forgotten Brazilian needing to be remembered."
Leicester Finally show their worth
No
one really expected Leicester to do well in the Premier Division this year and
of, their start to the league showed that managers had good reason to think
this. They have been humiliated many times this season yet they still held their
head's high. The players have been rewarded with their good attitude in the last
few week's as they went on a nice unbeaten run which has gave them great
confidence and is dragging them away from the relegation battle. Boss Micky
Adams said this:
"I'm so pleased for the lad's. They have had one hell of a season and they fully deserve to be here next year. Our performances in the last few weeks has gave all the other team's in the league something to think about. We suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend but that has not knocked us. Other team's have been turned inside out by Chelsea yet we only suffered a 1-0 defeat. We were unlucky to lose and could have came away with a draw, but that's football. We will now concentrate on escaping the bottom three and ensuring our premiership status will remain next season."
Rumors
Jesper Gronkjaer is said to be unhappy at not getting regular 1st team football at Aston Villa even though he has already scored 4 goals for his club. He is said to be looking for a move to Charlton Athletic.
Leeds are apparently interested in signing Matthew Upson from Portsmouth to strengthen their defense. Apparently the clubs are discussing a deal which would see him lave for around £5 million.
Kieron Dyer has supposedly put in a transfer request which manager Sir Bobby Robson didn't take very kindly. He is said to be looking at a move to either Manchester City or Arsenal.
