The Pseudohippy represents the most outgoing aspects of my personality. This is the part of me that prompts me to pass daisies around chatrooms, sign e-mails "*hugs and daisies*", greet people with a smile, hug others affectionately, and spread messages of peace and harmony to whomever may find them useful. I sometimes call myself "The Pseudohippy" because I happen to be the one who coined the phrase "Pseudohippy" in the first place. As far as I know, that'd make me THE Pseudohippy.
In a nutshell, Pseudohippy is a term for the new generation of hippies that started surfacing in the nineties. The Pseudo prefix (in my case) is a sort of "false hippy" disclaimer. First of all, I have never done any drugs (with the exception of caffine and music, of course), and free sex will get you dead these days. So, basically, I'm a hippy only not quite. The other reason the I use the "Pseudo" prefix is because ::news flash:: This, contrary to popular belief, is not the sixties. No matter how hard we try in our activism, we cannot revisit the sixties. They were the pioneers. Every response then was reacted to as a new phenomenon. Today, we are the offspring of seasoned veterans. This section used to say that the only war we are fighting is the one against ourselves, but I had to change that recently.
I am a citizen of the United States, and my country is currently waging war against Iraq. In a preemptive strike, George W. Bush (a man elected not by the citizens of the United States but by the electoral college), waged war against Saddam Hussein. Propaganda in this country would lead the citizens to believe that this strike was an attempt to keep Iraq from attacking us with the "nuclear weapons" they refused to destroy. Without hard evidence of these weapons, Bush told the leader of Iraq, "leave your country in two days or I'll send a bunch of troops over there to kick your butt." Sounds mature, doesn't it?
I urge you all to open your eyes and look around. You cannot rely on a single news source. The United States were founded on the belief that people should be permitted to think for themselves and voice their opinions. So let's think. Does war make sense when the general populus of the WORLD thinks our foreign policy is the most vile aspect of our nation? Stop throwing petty jokes around and wake up. The French are not the enemy. Nobody cares about Hussein's hat. Bush may look like a monkey, but he's really the new Hitler. His speeches ooze with bitterness, propaganda, and fundamentalism. Do they really sound any different from those of the so-called Terrorists? "My God's better than your God!" People are going through life with blinders on, thinking they're living in a more just world, but I've got news. THE REVOLUTION IS NOT OVER! Someone has to start protecting us from our government instead of ourselves.
The Pied Piper was my first pseudonym. I once wrote for an underground paper in high school. The paper, "So Grey," relied on complete anonymity, and, since I was obviously the resident flute player on campus, I figured The Pied Piper was a fitting pseudonym. Much to my surprise, the (obviously brilliant) student body *rolls eyes* did not figure this out until I finally revealed my identity on the last day of school my Senior year. Go figure!
Despite the fact that I am female, I do identify with the story of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. The poem by Robert Browning can be read here if you so choose. I enjoy the work and think Browning's Piper displays a unique view of justice.
