Mountain Biking

The Famous Flume Trail

It was a beautiful day in September 1999. My daughter, Jessica, drove up from Rocklin, California to Tahoe Vista on north shore at Lake Tahoe,California. Matt my son, Jessica, and I drove to east shore in Nevada to ride the Famous Flume Trail. The first three miles are uphill, but once this task is done its all fun. A quick one mile drop to Marlett Lake. A beautiful place to stop and have lunch or a snack. You ride around the lake to the old damn, this is where the Flume Trail starts. The next six miles or so are going to be most exciting, hair rasing, with spectacular views that you'll see any wheres. The Flume Trail is carved around a mountain range where the trail gets down to 12 inches, barely enough room to ride on, it's a long way down if you ride off the trail. Every corner you are going WOW!! or AAHHH!!. If you ride mountian bikes or hike, this trail is a must if you are in the Tahoe area.

Austin,Nevada

Back in March I had to leave Tahoe, you know, to much sno and no place to ride. So my buddy and I went out to Austin,Nevada to some trails I seen on the internet. Which turned out to be a four hour ride going east on highway 50, out to the middle of Nevada. The trails were mostly old roads, cow trails and some single track. Again this is some of the most beautiful country. One of the trails stays right on the side of a mountain range, that fallows a long flat desert. We stayed Three nights two and half days. The people in the town of Austin were happy to see us and treated us with respect. If you go about 12 miles east out of Austin, you"ll find Spencer's Hot Springs. These hot springs are very nice, and a great place to unwind after a fulls day ride. Besides my muscles needed it.
