The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

In Loving Memory of Matilda

Matilda thoroughly enjoyed being a volunteer with Therapy Pets Serving Mini-Cassia and the Delta Society. She had a purpose and a responsibility as a Therapy Pet, and she took her job seriously (until someone brought out the treats or tennis balls!). Matti proudly wore her Therapy Pets bandana and her Delta Society backpack at many visits and local health fairs. We miss her time spent visiting with staff and patients, and with promoting the physical and emotional benefits of being around animals. Her battle with bone cancer was short, and she kept her upbeat doggone attitude until the very last day.

Goodbye Matti, we'll miss you!

In Loving Memory of Peaches

Peaches the little miniature poodle I had just registered through Delta passed away on February 24, 2005. We only had her two years, but she had a very special place in our hearts and she will be missed. I am glad for the time we had for her. Peaches was deaf when we got her. I have a story about Peaches and every time I go by a Little Caesar's Pizza sign I remember her. I was running late one night from the vet's and had all five dogs in the car. I decided I would grab a pizza on the way home so I had something for supper. I stopped and bought a Little Caesar's pizza and bread sticks. I put the pizza and bread sticks on the floorboard so they would not get stepped on or eaten. As soon as I put the car in gear and started moving, Peaches jumped off the seat onto the pizza box, and smashed part of the bread sticks. I grabbed the breadsticks. Then tried to sign No to her. She would not look at me and started chewing on the box corners. Every time I stopped at a light Peaches would stop. She knew she would not get in trouble if I could not catch her chewing on the box. As soon as the car was moving again she would go back to chewing on the box. She would not look at me, so I could not tell her No. We made it home. Pizza and bread sticks a little smashed. She was not able to get into the Pizza but the memory of her jumping on it and chewing the corners every time the car moved will be with me for a long time. She was a character and by the time she came into our lives a pretty special girl.

In Loving Memory of Eyes

Eyes taught not only us a lot during her time with us, but also several people she met. She had a wonderful sense of dignity and grace. She was so good at reaching people who were withdrawn or scared with that wonderful kind gaze and sense of peace she had. Eyes came a long way from the frightened little girl we adopted in 1999 to the wonderful friend and therapy dog in the next few years. Eyes was put down January 6, 2006 due to bone cancer. We miss her and will for some time.

Goodbye Eyes, we'll miss you!

In Loving Memory of Walmart

Walmart started his therapy career late in life, but that did not stop him from making an impact on several people. He was a wonderful therapy animal and a loyal companion. Take care Walmart, you will be missed.

Chan and Eyes will be missed for their love and contribution

Chan was the first Therapy Dog I had. He was registered when he was 14 months old. He enjoyed our visits and especially liked children. Chan was an Akita. He was a big baby and loves everyone especially children. Chan was put done December 5th 2007, after a long illness. He is dearly missed and will always be special since he was the one who got me started on therapy work!

Eyes was a rescued Greyhound. I got Eyes when she was five and a half years old from TLC Greyhound Rescue in Kansas. To learn more about Greyhound Rescue check out these links. Greyhound Rescue . Eyes was diagnosed with bone cancer in October of 2005. Eyes passed away on January 6th 2006. She will be missed. She gave a lot to the people she visited, and was an advocate for Greyhound Rescue.
