Introduction: About this site
As you can imagine, the people financing and coordinating any university
want to see it do well. The money comes from its popularity, which comes
from its courses which are funded by its students. So it's hardly
surprising that these people will attract students in any way they can,
using marketing tactics and flashy advertising.
The purpose of this site is to provide a real perspective of one such
place, Keele
University, to prospective students wondering what it's really like.
By "real perspective," we mean the experiences of real Keele students, as
opposed to the misleading media hype set forth by the sales pitch of the prospectus.
Consider this site the "other side," where various students, past and
present have contributed their issues and experiences honestly and freely
without bias or anything to gain. These people remain anonymous, but
their accounts will be checked and edited by yours truly, who has already
been here for 5 years.
So read the prospectus, think "oh God, what a fantistic place," read this
site, see what it's like from the inside, and then make an informed
judgement - but don't be put off coming to Keele just by reading this site:
although some accounts will be frankly negative, it isn't all bad and
wherever you go there are likely to be problems. That's life, I'm afraid.
Over the course of the next few weeks expect to see links to other
articles relating to all of aspects of the Keele experience, including
sex, violence, money, drink and other academic, social and managerial
qualities.
Finally, apologies if the pages come up with javascript errors and are
deluged with adverts - this site is hosted free of charge on GeoCities,
and the catch is that they get to mess around with it.
Thanks.
