Andi Williams' Friendship RingAndi is 35 years old and lives in Sapporo, Japan (although most of his work is in the EU). He is an IT project manager and technical author. Andi with his brother Malk have both been Tolkien afficionados since their early teens. Unlike Malk, who spent hours through the introduction to the Hobbit, and the appendices to Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion studying the linguistic elements, Andi never bothered with these. However Andi, as many other people, loved Tolkien's conceptulisation of Elves. He wanted the first line of the Ring Poem in Quenya on a ring. Copying the more usual (and easily purchased) inscription 'Ash nazg durbatulūk' was morbid while the Elven rings were the only ones made with purity. He asked help from Malk, who finally found the desired help in Elfling. The ring was a present for a friend of Andi, who as he says, he 'fits many of the characteristics of elves. He's very old even though he looks very young; he's kind of magical (in the elvish sense), he seems like a lone figure in a world which has changed'. The Three Elven Rings referred in the verse of the ring, maintained the Elven realms throughout the Third Age till their fading. The ring is worn by his friend's neck in Frodo-like fashion. The engraving process took place in Japan. Andi has a similar one with a Chinese inscription.
