The Egyption Goverment has designated seven Islands in the Red Sea as a new marine park. They will join Ras Mohammed and other area's in Sinai Peninsular, providing much needed protection as Egypt continues it's tourism expansion plans. This move will build on the work already being carried out by HEPCA (The Hurghada Enviroment Protection and Conservation Association) with the United States funds providing mooring buoys, along with crew training on boats visiting the area. Visiting divers are now being charged $5 per day to dive and snorkel on the reefs around the Giftun Island of Hurghada. This income will go towards maintaining the wooring systems that have saved many of the mooring systems that have saved many of the reefs i the area from the destructive act of anchoring. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) have been working with HEPCA and the EEAA (Egyptian Enviromental Affairs Agency), which is now responsible for running the park. MCS's Red Sea Project Leader, Chris Wood, welcomed the announcement, he said:"MCS is glad to see the EEAA taking the initiative to controle access to these areas."
