My history in music: I grew up in Yorktown, Indiana, a suburb of Muncie. Muncie is a town of about 80,000 roughly 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis. My first introduction to rock and roll was when I heard "Hush" by Deep Purple on tthe local AM station that was often playing in various places I was as a kid. When I heard that song I thought it was the perfect sound. From that point on, that band would have a tremendous influence on me and I have played many of their songs in various bands over the years. I took guitar lessons when I was in grade school for a year or so and llike most kids ran hot and cold with it. That changed when I got my first electric guiitar for Christmas when I was in the seventh grade. It was a Gibson SG and it played like butter. One of my regrets to this day is that I no longer have this guitar. Anyway, such begins the saga of playing in bands...... My first band in high school was pretty awful, but an awful lot of fun. We covered Deep Purple and Jethro Tull , if you call could it covering. Later we tried to cover Chicago with a horn section and were at least as equally awfuil. After this band, I hooked up with a tremendous bass player named Tim Hofherr who last I knew was still active in the Muncie music scene. Thie first band I played in with Tim was "Asylum". We did lots of Aerosmith and some origiinals and even got played on the radio on a local music showcase on tthe biggest Indy FM rock station. As with all bands to some degree, soap operas ensued and various personnel changes occurred and eventually I moved on and played with some other people around town. In High School I had taken piano lessons for about six months so I decided to incorporate some keyboards into my playing. after my first band with Tim. Tim and me would hook up again in a band called "Colours", in which we covered a lot of different material and wrote and played some originals that were sort of jazz-rock fusion. More soap operas, moving on..... In the mid-80's I was recruited as a utility man for my first female-fronted band called Squeeze Play. Though we were based in Muncie, we never played a club there. We played every weekend around Indiana and Ohio covering the popular stuff of the time including Pat Benatar, Heart, Quarterflash, Katrina and the Waves etc. Then band breaks up, another band, fronted by our former sound man for Squeeze Play. During one of this band's shows I met my first wife Marcia. While we were dating she introduced me to someone she had sang with before, a Mr. Governor Davis.. Governor is now an Indiana blues legend and someone you should see if you ever get the chance. Governor (that is really his given name, he is actually Governor Davis III) toured Europe in the winter/spring of 2005. www.governordavisandthebluesambassodors.com . |

During my time with Governor, I married Marcia and we actually played our own wedding reception. After the birth of our first son Seth, it became increasingly less appealing to be playing all the time and I had developed an attitude. At this time in my life, I had a true love/hate relationship with music and was very much on the hate side. I hung it all up and this I believe this contributed to the failure of our marriage. During our marriage we moved around a little bit living in Muncie , the suburbs of Indy and even an insufferable six months in Kentucky. During our time in Kentucky, my daughter Cheyenne was born. A couple years later we divorced and shortly after the divorce Marcia was tranferred to Sacramento Califonra with her job. She then made an offer to me that affected my life more than any other. She offered to give me a place to stay as she was getting a house and needed help getting on her feet with the cost of housing in California. During this time, my love of playing returned and through one of my co-workers Cindi Groesbeck I met Rick Groesbeck who I played and wrote songs with for the time I lived in CA. We also worked together at the legendary Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco. Seeing the gold records on the wall and standing under the location where Grace Slick had a ring of lights installed to sing "Whtie Rabbit" remains one of my favorite memories. Rick is still one of my dearest friends today and was best man at my wedding when I married my current wife Sue. Marcia was tranferred yet again, this time to Saint Louis. In October of 1998 I moved to the Saint Louis area where I still live today. I had in my online profile that I played keyboards. I was Im'd by Casey Blick one day about playing with his band Yarn. I met the Yarn guys in the fall of 99 and played my first show with them in December of 99. Yarn was scheduled for a reunion gig in 2005 but alas that did not materialize. Looking into 2006, it should be a busy year with both 3rd Story and Citizens Arrest returning to old haunts and exploring new ones. As always, many thanks to all the wonderful people who support us. Remember: You are the music, we're just the band. |
