I Will Remember You
Written By: David Greenwalt
Quick SummaryAfter Xander lets out the secret of Angel's appearance in Sunnydale, Buffy decides to pay a visit to Angel in Los Angeles. The episode opens with Angel, Cordelia and Doyle talking about Angel's visit to Sunnydale where he tells them that he didn't actually talk to Buffy. Buffy suddenly walks in, obviously angry at Angel for not talking to her during his visit. Cordelia introduces Doyle to Buffy and they leave Angel and Buffy alone to talk. Buffy starts to yell at Angel for not giving her a chance to talk to him during his visit and Angel tries to explain that he thought that it would have been better if they didn't see each other. However Buffy disagrees but they decide to let it be and go their separate ways again. Just as Buffy is about to leave, a demon bursts through the window and attacks them. Before they get a chance to kill it, the demon jumps back out of the window. Before she leaves, Buffy decides to help Angel kill the demon. In the sewers Angel and Buffy track the demon and begin to banter on their choice of weapons. Buffy is holding a stake while Angel's choice is an axe-like sword. They see some of the demon's blood and continue on. Soon, Buffy and Angel can't stand being so close to each other and Buffy says how weird it is for them to be together. However Angel comments that the demon's blood has a weird energy to it. As they continue in the sewers Buffy says that the demon may have gone to the surface so they decide to split up. Angel continues down the sewers and is attacked by the demon once again and gets his hand cut. Before killing the demon, some of the blood of the demon flows into Angel's wound and changes him into a human. Back at the agency, Cordelia and Doyle wonder what happened in Angel's office with the window broken. Just then they notice Angel walk through the front door, from the sunlight and they realize something has happened. Angel then realizes that he is extremely hungry and goes over to the mini-refrigerator and starts gorging himself on food. Doyle manages to calm Angel down telling them they must figure out what has happened to him. Angel tells Cordelia to go and tell Buffy that he has killed the demon but not to mention what has happened to him. Angel then asks Doyle how it's possible that he has changed into a human and accuses Doyle of not telling him everything. Doyle simply replies that they are on a need to know basis, but the only ones who could have changed Angel are The Powers That Be. Doyle tells Angel that he can get some answers from the Oracle. They proceed to perform a ritual which allows Angel to speak to the Oracles. They tell him that the Mora Demon's power has enabled him to become human and that if it has happened, then it was supposed to happen. Buffy is walking around near a beach and senses Angel's presence and when she looks behind her, she sees Angel walk out into the sunlight. Angel walks over to Buffy and starts to kiss her. Back at the agency, Cordelia and Doyle discuss the repercussions of Angel's transformation. Doyle is genuinely happy for him while Cordelia is upset because she has lost her job. Meanwhile, Buffy and Angel are in his apartment discussing the repercussions as well. At first they decide that they should continue to stay away from each other but their love for each other is too powerful and they end up making love to each other once again. Cordelia and Doyle are sitting at a bar talking about how Doyle will be glad to be rid of the painful visions that he receives but just then he receives another vision of the Mora demon re-appearing. Doyle rushes back to the apartment to warn Angel about the demon. Angel decides that he must go and kill the demon once again. Doyle suggests that they bring Buffy, but he says that he doesn't want her to wake her up. They track down the Mora demon and try to kill it but Angel in human form is too weak and starts to get beat up by the demon. Buffy wakes up and asks Cordelia where Angel is. Cordelia however is still going on about her losing her job and Cordelia asks Buffy if she ever thought about how Angel's transformation would affect her. Buffy replies no and then Cordelia lets it slip that Angel has gone to fight the Mora demon. Angel is getting severely beaten up by the demon and they end up falling into a large underground salt container. As Angel continues to lose, the demon starts talking about the end of days and how they will all die soon. Just then Buffy jumps into and starts to fight the demon. At first she has the upper hand but then begins to lose. The demon reveals that together, Angel and Buffy, were strong but now that Angel is human, they are weak. Angel then tells Buffy how to kill the demon and they are saved. Angel realizes that in human form he has no use, so he goes back to the Oracles and asks them to change him back into a vampire. At first they are reluctant to do it because they believe he is doing it for love, however he convinces them that as a human, the Mora demon has eliminated one of the warriors fighting for good. They agree to turn back the days events and allow the day to replay itself, except that Angel will remember what has happened, so he can avert being transformed again. Back at his apartment, Buffy asks Angel what is wrong and he tells her of his decision. They have a gut-wrenching exchange, discussing the days events. Buffy wonders how she will be able to live on knowing what she will lose. Angel convinces her that it is for the good of all that they must make the sacrifice. She asks him how long before the day is replayed and he replies, "one minute". She can't believe that it will be so soon and they embrace one final time. Buffy tells Angel that she will never forget what their moments of happiness. Time moves back and Angel finds himself back at the moment when Buffy first entered his office and they have decided to separate once again. Just as Buffy is about to leave, the Mora demon bursts through the window, just as before, but this time Angel kills it immediately. After Angel kills the demon, Buffy says good-bye and leaves. ReviewSo far, the best episodes this season has involved guest spots from characters from Buffy, that is Spike and Oz, guesting in In The Dark. The pattern continued in this amazing episode in which Buffy goes to Los Angeles to confront Angel. If you're a Buffy/Angel fan, then this was definitely an episode that you did not want to miss. Contrasting Angel's appearance in the hilarious Buffy episode in the previous hour, Buffy's appearance in Angel was yet another gut-wrenching love story.Overall, this episode worked very well. I already knew that Buffy and Angel were going to make love again, but I was very surprised by how this was achieved. When it was revealed that Angel had been transformed into a human, I sat there wondering what Joss had done. Although I was pretty sure that he wouldnot retain his mortality, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if Angel was left as a human for a few episodes. Angel's transformation could have provided some interesting opportunities for character development over a few episodes, but alas this did not happen. In the end though, his transformation back to a vampire provided us with yet another instantly classic Buffy/Angel scene where they must give up their love to protect the world. Some other interesting points from this episode. The scene which Angel walks out into the sunlight would have been more powerful if Angel hadn't already done so in In The Dark. Also, given the seriousness of the Mora demon's threats about the fight between good and evil, wouldn't one expect that this would have repercussions in Sunnydale? Which leads to a question which pops up again and again...Why isn't there more than one active slayer? The introduction of the Oracles was very interesting and hopefully we'll get to see more of them in future episodes. Last but not least, I must say that the scene between Buffy and Cordelia was hilarious. They aren't even together for two days and they already start throwing sarcastic remarks at each other! Definitely one of the best episodes so far. A+ Random Quotes"How can we be together if the cost is your life or the lives of others" - Angel to Buffy on why he must become a vampire again.
