Lonely Hearts
Written By: David Fury
Quick SummaryLonely Hearts begins with Angel sitting in the agency in the dark. Doyle walks in and tells him that it's friday night and that they should go out and have a good time. Doyle also hints that he would also like to get with Cordelia and wants Angel to put in a good word for him. He also tells Angel not to tell Cordelia that he is a demon, because he knows that women get freaked out about that. Cordelia then walks in excited because their business cards have just come in. She passes them out to Angel and Doyle, and they have fun guessing what the logo is (a butterfly, a bird) but it is in fact an Angel (duh!). Doyle then falls over and gets a premonition of a nightclub but not any specific face. Doyle recognizes the place as club D'Oblique. At the club a woman sitting at the bar is approached by a man and they start talking. Angel, Doyle and Cordelia then walk in and they split up trying to find the person in need. Angel walks up to the bar and a woman, Kate, starts talking to him. Meanwhile, Cordelia starts walking up to people and passing out the business cards. Doyle tells her that she needs to be more discrete when handing out the cards, because they don't want the police to think that a vigilante is working in the city. Angel and Kate hit it off talking and she asks Angel if he wants to go somewhere more quiet to talk but he declines because he has to stay and find the person in need. Cordelia is then approached by a man who wants "service" and Doyle begins to argue with the guy. The guy then calls Cordelia a "hooker" at which point Doyle starts a fight with him. The man and his friend are then thrown out of the club after Angel and Doyle beat them up. They stay the rest of the night wondering where the person they were to help was. In the next scene we see the man and woman from the club in bed. While they are lying in bed, a demon leaves the body of the man and enters the womans. The man is left dead in bed and the woman, Sharon, gets up and gets dressed. Back at the detective agency Angel, Cordelia and Doyle are searching the computer to find any weird occurrences surrounding the club. They notice that a female and male were found dead after leaving D'Oblique. They also know that the mans body was eviscerated so Angel tells Cordelia and Doyle to go to the library and research for the demon. The next night Angel goes back to D'Oblique and bumps into Kate just outside it. Angel, who seems to like Kate, asks her not to go in but can't explain why. She promptly tells him to go to hell. They both go in and we see Sharon talking to a guy, flirting with him. Angel goes to the bar and overhears someone asking the bartender if his friend Kevin has been in. The bartender says that he saw Kevin with Sharon last night but Sharon's in with another guy today. Angel starts asking about Sharon and what her last name is. The friend remembers it and Angel goes to the phonebook and looks up Sharon. He takes off, with Kate in pursuit. Angel bursts into the apartment just after the demon has left Sharon's body and entered the guys. A battle insues but the demon is too strong for Angel and it escapes. Before Angel can leave, Kate bursts in and pulls a gun and badge on Angel. She sees Sharon dead and tells Angel that she has been tracking him since the day before. Angel tries to convince Kate that he's innocent but she doesn't believe him. Angel then jumps out the window before Kate can bring him to prison. Angel goes to Cordelia's apartment and mentions that Cordelia is living in such a "dump". Cordelia and Doyle tell Angel that they have discovered that the demon's name is Talmar and he is a parasite and his weakness is fire. Meanwhile, Kate goes to Angel's apartment and breaks in (without a warrant) and starts searching around his place. The next day, Angel decides that they can't save defeat the demon without Kates help, so he calls her at the police station and arranges to meet her at D'Oblique at 7:00. In the meantime though, the demon has managed to move from the guys body to another woman's body. At D'Oblique, Kate asks the bartender to tell her when Angel comes in. He then tells her that he saw Angel in the alley and brings her to the backdoor. The bartender then attacks Kate and tries the demon tries to move into her body. Angel then bursts in and saves her. Angel and the bartender fight it out for awhile but again Angel is no match and Kate and Angel get locked up in the basement. The bartender who is really weak by this point goes back into the club and tries to find a woman to attack but because of his bloody appearance, the woman get freaked out. Kate and Angel then break out of the basement when Kate shoots the lock. They then run after the demon and Angel saves a woman being kidnapped by the demon. Angel and the demon then start to fight (yet again!) and Angel manages to throw the demon into a barrelfire. While on flames, the demon lunges at Angel but Kate then appears and starts shooting the demon until he dies. The next scene, we see Kate apologizing to Angel for suspecting him that he was the killer. She also tells him that she searched his place. Angel says it's okay because they saved each other's life. He tells her that if she ever needs help to give him a call, as he passes her a business card. She then tries to guess what the image is and he takes it back saying that he'll be around. The final scene features Angel asking Cordelia and Doyle to go out and have drinks for good work. But everyone is too tired and they go home leaving Angel to sit in the dark.
