Quick SummaryComing SoonReviewI have to say that this has to be the most enjoyable and fantastic episode of Angel so far! It was definitely an action packed episode that kept me glued to my seat for the whole hour!!! And might I add that it didn't focus on Angel, but on Cordelia and Doyle! This episode continues with the hilarious banter between Cordelia and Doyle which is reminisent of when Cordelia and Xander were going out. But let me say that it doesn't seem forced though, it seems quite natural. Why? Because Cordelia has always been the one who wants to go out with the richest, best looking guy, but seems to keep on falling for the sweet ones. Their relationship continues to grow, to the point where Cordelia actually calls Doyle for a place to stay and for help. I guess Joss is leading up to Doyle's eventual demise and provide it with a bigger impact. In this episode, we discover that Doyle has a bounty on his head and Angel helps to rectify the situation. Are we surprised. Of course not. Doyle's character up to this point has been very consistent. He wants to help, but doesn't really do much other than drink and ogle Cordy. We find out in this episode, that for some reason, Doyle enjoys just scraping by and having debts hang over his head. Its pretty obvious that this will eventually be his downfall. Up to tonights episode, the stories have not really focused on Cordelia's situation in Los Angeles. All we had seen up to this point was that she is a struggling actress who lives in a dump. Tonights episode let us into Cordelia's thoughts and fears of living in such poor conditions. In Sunnydale, she was a rich and popular person. Now she's a no one in a big city full of no one's. We see that she is so ashamed of her life now, she doesn't want to reveal anything to her friends in Sunnydale. And even though she has treated many people badly, we feel really sorry for her. We find out that Cordelia is on a quest of her own. She knows that she's done bad things and feels as though she is being punished. Getting her new apartment allows her to believe that she isn't that bad of a person and in fact she is good. The scenes where the old lady was taunting Cordelia were frightening. We see Cordelia literally breaking down and kind of going schizo on us. I for one was very surprised that she broke down so badly. I knew that Cordelia would pick herself up but I wasn't expecting her to be down for such a long time. But eventually she does and the parts when Cordelia tells off the ghost were classic! Cordelia re-discovers the bitch she was in Sunnydale and prevails over the ghost and helps to solve the mystery. A few other comments. The continued use of Det.Lochley is welcomed. The only gripe I had about this episode was Angel who continues to walk around during the day without bursting into flames! Whats up with that. Remember in Buffy, he could barely stand a little daylight!! Now he can, but he just can't walk directly into it! What's up with that??? Finally, might I say that the flashback sequence to when the mother was sealing up her son in the wall was just psychotic!! A+ |
