ReviewYou know I was really excited to watch this episode. From the trailers and rumours about Bai Ling, the episode was shaping up to be one of the best of the season. Unfortunately this episode failed in the sense that it didn't seem to accomplish much.Yes, Bai Ling as Jira (sp?) was really cool. Her powers and back story were interesting enough. I believe that she could become a great addition to the cast, especially considering that the cast seems to be lacking at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I like the current cast, but we need more constant faces to make the show more "comfy". Okay, so what didn't I like about the episode? Well, the whole story revolved around Jira's quest to free the women of Odentall (sp?). This seemed like a good enough plot, but the episode didn't feel like it did anything to add to the overall scheme of things. Instead, it seemed to just foreshadow things to come in the future. In the beginning of this series, Joss introduced "Wolfram and Heart" as enemies to seen in the future. When Doyle died, Joss introduced the Scurge, another enemy to be seen in the future. Now Joss has introduced yet another group of villains, the Vegoreas of Odentall (I have no idea how to spell these names). What is the point of all these villains? Perhaps Joss is trying to show that Los Angeles is filled with many threats to our heroes. This may be all well and good, but it seems to me that the focus of the series is off. Unlike Buffy which seems to be progressing to an inevitable destination, Angel seems to be scattered. Maybe I'm being a little too picky, but that's what I thought of this episode. Other things I didn't like: How come the clothes of the security guard at the beginning didn't burn along with the body? What's up with Angel and his "bat toys" running up the side of the building? Angel connects his cell phone to the charger so that he can call Cordelia, but you clearly see no wire while he's talking! Little things like these bug me. B- Only because they introduced a cool new character! |
