Chapter 1
January 15th 2001
Gunner Studios
Vancouver, Canada

"So, what's the schedule look like for the next few weeks?" I asked as I finished sweeping the floor of the studio, pausing to sip a coffee and peer over my boss' shoulder at the stack of papers he was rifling through.
"Busy as hell Julia," Bruce Fairburn grimaced. "We've got a big-name act coming in next week."
          Pause. "Who?"
"Their management asked me to keep the name under wraps. To ensure the band's privacy, they don't want more than the necessary amount of people knowing whre they are recording."
          "They any good?"
"I should say so. Award nominations, a #1 in US and UK, and they've made the cover of pretty much every major magazine in the States at some point. Their last record didn't do as well in sales as the first, but they're really maturing into serious musicians."
My coffee lay forgotten on the side table. "You're serious?" Bruce nodded. "We have an actual band with major label backing coming in?" This sort of thing never happens at Gunner Studios. Bruce usually only dealt with small-time acts.
"Hard to believe, eh?" What I've been told is that they heard the Copperline CD, and loved it. I'll be wanting you to put in extra hours here if that's not too much trouble."
"None at all. Do you want me in on Saturday morning?"
          "Please."
          "Alright. See you then."
          "Bye."

**********

The cold sharp teeth of the night air bit into my cheeks as I walked to my car.
I wonder who this mystery band is, I thought to myself.
