And There Is Love
There is a calm
Beneath the desert thunderstorm
With its flickering needles of light
And voice cracking
Through the stillness of the heavy air
And a love invisible
But nonetheless present
That resides in the breath
of the small fox cubs
caught in their den in a flood
Of darkness and water
In the night
And in the brilliant sunlight
That sweeps the grass
Surrounded by a halo of death
The world continues
In the breath, in the lungs, in the air
In the filaments of the invisible
There is a calm that is beyond death
And there is love
That rests on our lips like a kiss
And on our eyes, and whispers its name
Within our dreaming.
