Woke up to Tillie Wood ringing the breakfast bell at 7:00. We jumped out of the sleeping bags and went to the porch of the bunk house. We went in to her cabin/house and actually sat down at her dinner table. There was china plates, coffee cups, and silverware. It was so nice to sit in a house around a table and have a meal. Tillie is an amazing hostess. Eggs, buscuits, sausage, grits, gravy, fruit, coffee and orange juice and good conversation went around the table. Tillie stood over the table and entertained us with some sotres. We got a couple pictures of her house, and of me Goat and Tillie on the front porch.
I believe that within a confined area there's only so much "energy" for every + (good) theres equal - (bad) energy (this is just a silly thought, but stay with me). If - energy is produced, sometime soon after there must be + energy. Yesterday there was an excess of bad energy; high stress, bad moods, terrible weather, tired weary body parts that ached the whole day. Today I ate breakfast with wonderful people, and a great hostess. The sun was out, and the sky was an electric blue, the air was cool, crisp and refreshing. My body was strong and the hike was flat and had beautiful views. Positive energy from today canceled out the negative energy from yesterday. It always seems to happen like that. Something gets you down out here, but then something wonderful takes your mind off the bad.
Reached Pearisburg about 4:15. Grabbed our maildrop from the Rendevous Motel, but they were all booked up for the night. We got a room at the Holiday Motor Lodge. I've definately stayed in nicer motels. The only really annoying part was that the hot water ran out on Ben, then me, then on Goat. We only had enough hot water for about 5 minutes of the shower. We took Anna's car (Tim's friend from home) to the laundry mat, then grabbed some Chinese and Italian food. The 3 of us sat in the hotel room and discussed topics that provoked heated debates when they are brought up, and relaxed a little. Tomorrow is a zero day. We're going to dry out our gear and let our bodies rest and heal. 600 miles is a lot of wear and tear on the body.
Something I learned when it was raining so hard during our hike: Don't let the adverse events keep you from stopping to smell the flowers.
Peace, love & cat collars...
