With infinite Prime Planes and the means to traverse them, elements of one plane sometimes infect another. On many planes, clockwork lore advanced well beyond iron springs and gears. Constructs that unlock energy from matter and sunlight were developed on some planes. The lore of the machine builders is vast, and some of their mechanisms serve as remote servants for mighty exploratory vessels.
Some of these vessels got lost in the surge pools of the universe, crashing on planes were technology is close to non-existent. In most cases, the living crew and their machine servants didn’t survive the catastrophe; in some, a few of the machines did. These damaged, but functioning machines bypassed safeguards and mimicked life, replicating themselves to insure survival.
Of course, this is just speculation, their real origin still remains a mystery. For now belief is that during the Great War, Aranox was one of those places where "clockwork lore advanced well beyond springs and gears." Up till now, it is still unsure if the sheen came from the army of Light or from the Evil One herself.
Their single goal is their own expansion, at the expense of local resources. Machine life regards living creatures as dispensable and easily eradicated competitors.
The sheen are responsible for the recent destruction of Oasis and its population. They are certainly a party to be reckoned with.
