Brutes
Where do they come from? Who can say? If you got the nerve to approach one of these hulking behemoths and ask him, he will say:"We is 'lwayz been 'ere, wurkin' the minez o' Shady Sandz." Most of the brutes of AranoX either live in a tribe in the mountains or work in the mines of Undersands. The ones that work in the mines are considered a bit more civilized than their barbaric cousins, but a lot of people still think of them as dumb savages. Because they are not considered that bright, few people have ever cared to indulge themselves in the history of the brutes, but that doesn't mean they don't have a culture or that they lack wisdom. Too many conceited, self-centered humans even go as far as calling themselves superior to brutes. They place themselves above the brutes, who they were destined to command.
Maybe in the future, when the merciless fangs of nature have taken the lives of too many humans, the brutes will prove to be the only ones strong enough to survive in this harsh world. Then evolution will decide for us who is the better race.

Brutes
  • Str +4, Con +2, Int -2, Wis -2, Cha -2 Brutes MUST assign their highest ability score in Strength. Although strong, they're not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  • Poisonous: Sages claim that living underground for generations and being preyed upon by much larger and stronger creatures has left the Brute with an uncanny evolutionary change. Brute flesh and blood is poisonous. When freshly drawn from a wound, brute's blood can be smeared on a weapon to deal poison damage. The DC to resist it is 10 + the brute's constitution modifier, initial and secondary damage is 1d4 Constitution. Any creature biting a brute needs to make the same saving throw or become poisoned.
  • Darkvision: Brutes can see without any light source, but only up to 60 feet. Darkvision provides a black and white view only, but for missile purposes darkvision within the 60' range is as good as normal vision in an illuminated room.
  • Brutes move at the same speed as humans: 30 feet/round in combat, and 3 miles per hour in travel, but their remarkable capacity for exertion allows them to run, hustle, or walk for longer distances without rest. They can walk for 16 hours straight without needing to rest and they can hustle for 2 hours before they start taking subdual damage as normal.
  • Brutes can work twice as hard and twice as long than most other races before they need rest. Regardless of exertion intensity or duration, eight hours of undisturbed sleep allows a brute to awaken fully rested and ready to work.
  • Improved Healing: Brutes heal damage at twice the normal rate if it is through natural healing. This ability doesn't affect healing through magical or other means.
  • ECL +1 Brutes receive a level adjustment, so a Brute with 1 level of Barbarian counts as a level 2 character.
  • Favored Class: Barbarian.
