Interview: Jen @ Cloth Menagerie.

Q: Your website name is creative and original while still being very informative about the content of the site. Did it come to you all of a sudden, or was there a story?

A: There is a story, a rather long and involved one, but I'll try to condense it. I've always loved "The Glass Menagerie" by Tenessee Williams. Then I started making stuffed animal angels for a charity group I was involved with online. About that time I was building my first personal webpage to show these stuffed animals and I needed a name. Since I'd made many kinds of animals, out of cloth, it seemed appropriate to combine a couple of things and come out with The Cloth Menagerie. The sims sites is only part of a whole. The Cloth Menagerie is actually my own business name for the costuming and sewing I do outside of my job.

Q: There are so many people who have never attempted or are just thinking about making something or creating a site. What's it like running a site and making skins? Do you have any advise? Or any interesting or useful details?

A: It is a ton of work..I am so picky about my skins and the look of my site, it probably takes me longer than others, but I think it helps to have a good looking site as well as good quality downloads. My advice..if you just want to make a few objects, or aren't sure if you have the time for a full site, contact a site about being a guest artist first...there are so many little sites out there, and so many unknown ones, guest artists on an established site get better visibility than a small site that doesn't have time to update on a really regular basis.
---------------------------------------------

Q: Since you own a web page, you probably come into contact with a variety of people. Have you made any new friends or enemies this way? How?

A: I've made a few friends, mostly other webmasters that I keep a regular contact with. I've made many more friends through the Simmers Street Forum than just through emails. Enemies, hmm..maybe, I'm sure there are a few people who don't like it when I don't want to do a request.
---------------------------------------------

Q: What is the strangest request or idea you've received because of the website?

A: Well, I've been asked for many anime characters, which just aren't my thing, but I think the worst request would have to be one I received recently. I was asked for a little girl skin with high heels and a really low cut top. It sounded pretty trashy looking to me, and besides, I don't know of a childs heeled mesh, so i had to turn it down.
---------------------------------------------

Q: In the lengthy history of your skinng, what are some of the most most creative?

A: I'd have to say the most creative would be Aladrin's fairie, feather and pixie wings. He kindly gave me permission to use the fairies that I have up on my site. He does some wonderful mesh work.
---------------------------------------------

Q: As a costumer, what cool and unusual outfits have you seen? What were they like?

A: As a costumer...hmm, I've seen tons and tons of costumes, not only where I work, but at the NCA yearly conventions. One of my favorites was designed for me to wear for competition. It is a Venetian Carnival costume circa late 1700's. Huge skirt, tight bodice, big white wig, mask and ultra cool hat :)
---------------------------------------------

Q: Does the web page take up most of your spare time? Do you have time for other, web interests and/or creative ventures? What are they?

A: No, I don't let it. If I get to the point where I have no time to do anything but the website I step back for a little while. I am happily married, and if I don't spend some time with my husband that won't last too long, plus I love to read and always have at least one book, if not two, going at any time. The site is a hobby, for a game, and there are other things that are just more important to me. That doesn't mean I don't care about running the site, just not the highest priority in a busy life.
---------------------------------------------

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to mention about the sims, yourself, etc.?

A: Hmm....I think about the only thing we haven't covered would be my astrological sign, lol. I'm a Libra if anyone wants to know. Seriously though, I love running my little site, and I love getting mails that tell me people out there do like what I'm doing and want me to continue. If no one wanted my stuff, what would be the point?
