Interview: Teri @ Mail Order Sims. |
Q: Why did you create Mail Order Sims? Did you want to offer you items for downloading or simply feature several people’s work for downloading?
A: Actually, Mail Order Sims started as a single owner site and turned into what you see today over the coarse of the past year. When I first started the site, I actually featured prices and delivery times with each object, but as the site grew it became too much to keep up with. All the objects do continue to carry the delivery time info, to give that feeling of ordering from a mail order catalog. I made the site because I really wanted to create, and I wanted to bring a new twist to web site presentation. I was blown away when I first saw Mall of the Sims, the concept was so great. I didn't want to copy their idea, but a mail order catalog hadn't been done. I also thought about doing a auction type site (Simmerbees....lol) but decided on Mail Order Sims...it plays on the another great EA game, Mail Order Monsters. I wanted that kind of humor on the site.

Q: What are some of your favorite and least favorite things about running a website?
A: Well, when I first started, the biggest hassle was the pressure you're under to update frequently. I was blessed, I found a great partner, Kat, and soon we had a full staff of wonderful ladies. Each time I add someone, I swore that was the last person I'm adding...the time to place everyone's items kills me sometimes. I'm very happy with each and every creator that has wanted to join our team, each one of them brings something very special to MOS. I'm glad that I didn't stick to my "I'm not adding anyone else" rants, or I would have missed out on some great creators. The best thing about working on the site is all the friends I've made.
---------------------------------------------
Q: Also, what’s the most difficult thing involved with your site?
A: Keeping track of everyone's stuff....lol. I finally got smart and put everyone's things into different folders, and even with all that organization, it can still be very hard to keep track of what's going on.
---------------------------------------------
Q: The layout to your site is certainly unique; what influenced you to make it with the specials and catalogue sections?
A: Well, truth be told, it was the only way I could figure out to keep everyone seperate. I wanted to make sure that each creator had their own area. First, so they would/could get the reconizition they deserved. Second, I'm always looking ahead, and should anyone ever want to leave the site, I wanted to make sure they could do that without me pulling all my hair out looking for all their stuff.
---------------------------------------------
Q: Where did the website name come from? Is there a story that goes with it?
A: Well, yes, and if I had read the questions before I started answering, I may have saved the EA bit for down here. I guess I'll tell you about Mail Order Monsters. It was a game for the C64. I loved that game. You had a monster, then you had to "mail order" any extras you wanted. It was quite funny. I'm hoping if I tell enough people about it, they'll make a new version of that game for the PC or Playstation. LOL
---------------------------------------------
Q: In real life, are there things you do that might help you?
A: Well, I spend a lot of time browsing mail order catalogs trying to get ideas for creations.
---------------------------------------------
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to mention about yourself, the site, the Sims, etc.?
A: Sure, I love to talk about myself and the site. I am married and have a daughter. My hubby is in the US Navy. I'd like to tell you a little about the ladies on the staff. First, Kat, she is married and lives with her husband and daughter in Nevada. Her daughter is a year younger than mine, and only about a week apart in birthdays. Kay is also married (her husband serves in the military as well) and very involved with her school's PTA. Amy is ex-Air Force, as is her husband. I think that's so cool. And finally, Melly, she lives with her darling and cat, Flunse, in Germany. I admire each of these ladies, and their devovotion to making Mail Order Sims such a wonderful site.
