Interview: Red @ Wretched Sims. |

Q: What inspired you to start up a Sims page? Were there any sites that
particularly influenced you?

A: This is kind of a funny thing the TRUTH to what inspired me to start
up a Sims page was that my husband had written a software program to
build web pages with and he wanted to test it and I was the guinea pig.
*grin* As for deciding to make it a Sims site well, pure and simply, my
addiction to the Sims and downloading things for them made that the
obvious choice for what kind of page. As far as any one site influencing
me--there are so many great sites out there and so many wonderful
creators of Sims stuff that to not be influenced by MANY would be pretty
shallow. *grin*

---------------------------------------------

Q: Many people start web pages, but they are never able to get past step
one.
Were there any troubles you had getting it started, and how did you get
past
them to get such a well-layed out site?

A: As I said in the first question because of having Wretched's program
to use, doing this website has been fairly easy; we already have our own
server and all of the things that make having a site difficult for other
sites have been non-issues for us. And with him being in the technical
field I guess I have a bit of an edge in that if I do have problems all
I have to do is ask for him to help me. =)

---------------------------------------------

Q: The hate mail link was an interesting supplement to the page, why did
you
put it there? Is there a story that goes along with it?

A: Originally I was inspired to have the Hate Mail section on Wretched
Sims because, to be honest, I got kind of tired of hearing other
webmasters talk about how they got a "mean" email about their site and
there never seemed to be anything they could do about it without fear of
losing a visitor or two to their site. I thought that instead of being
afraid of getting a mail bashing my site I would embrace any hate mail
that anybody wanted to send. The plan kind of didn't pan out because I
have yet to receive an email saying Wretched Sims sucks. I know, I
know--that sounds kind of crass but it's the truth and a very surprising
truth, to me, anyway. The Hate Mail has evolved quite bit now, however,
I would love it if it got more activity--my vision for it now is a place
that ANYBODY can come and say ANYTHING they want to as long as it
follows some decency (depending on the mood of The Mailevolent One of
the day *grin*) Seriously, it was also inspired by the fact that in the
Sims Community itself there is not a place that one can go to and feel
free to say whatever they want about certain "issues" within the Sims
Community. I thought it would be okay to have a place where people could
say what they wanted to instead of doing it in the forums where it is
just not, in my opinion, the right place to do it. Me and my staff at
Wretched Sims have an ample supply of humor so we can take whatever is
dished out. And no, this doesn't mean that we won't share our opinion as
well. LOL

---------------------------------------------

Q: What is it really like running a web site? What are the fun things?
And what
boring things to you have to do as well?

A: Hmmmmmm, I would have to say that it is more "work" that I ever
thought it would or could be. It is time consuming and I would have to
say it is very much like having a job. I don't work outside the home and
I figured well between loads of laundry this could be a piece of
cake--something fun to do. The downside is the hours and hours of
uploading and trying to remember all the things in that process, for
example, the screenshots and stuff. Those would be the boring parts. And
I find it boring that at times when I would like to be doing something
else I realize that there is site stuff that needs to be done. All of
that is getting better because some of the expectations I placed on
MYSELF have been lowered a bit. I'm a little less apt to freak out if I
go a day or two without updating than I was in the beginning.

The fun parts of being a web mistress is first, all the great people I
have met since having Wretched Sims online and the friendships that have
grown out of it. It is fun to learn new things which I am doing every
day.

---------------------------------------------

Q: A lot of the things on your site are beautiful paintings and walls.
Where do
all the ideas come from? Do you draw them out or have you seen them
somewhere?

A: For me to take any credit for the paintings would be, mildly put,
laughable. I think I have made one painting on the site and it was kind
of just in fun. I am a HUGE fan of fine arts, however, and more than
that in the visions of the people who actually create for Wretched Sims.
So far, I haven't said to anyone that their stuff doesn't belong there
even though some of the objects don't fit the original "feel" of what I
wanted Wretched Sims to be. I think most of the creators on the staff of
Wretched Sims make things based on what they love for example...Dogg's
love of football was what brought about the Sports pictures, Faerie's
love of Dragons (as well as my own) brought about the Medieval
section...and The Mailevolent One's love for Tolkein art and all of our
love of the Lord of the Rings brought about those paintings. I haven't
told them (the creators) that there's anything they can't do...and so
far I have never been disappointed by the things that have been
submitted by anybody, including the guest artists.

---------------------------------------------

Q: In real life, are there things you do that might help with your site?

A: Does being good at doing laundry and keeping house count? ;)

---------------------------------------------

Q: Everyone has funny stories about their Sims. What's a favorite of
yours?

A: This one is more puzzling than funny, I think. I had a little goth
house that two guys lived in, Louis and Lestat. Well, one day Louis
decided to build a fire in the fire place and he set fire to the living
room and perished in the fire. Lestat remained. A few days past and
there was another guy there...he was NOT a ghost and he looked exactly
like the guy that had not died. The weirdest part was that he showed up
in the house, ate meals with guests and even talked to them, he got
sleepy, and everything just as a regular Sims but his face didn't show
up in the family area at the bottom of the screen so I had no control
over him and I never new what his moods were or anything. I have no idea
where he came from or who the doppelganger was. It was just plain eerie.
LOL

---------------------------------------------

Q: Lastly, is there anything else you want to mention about your site or
the
Sims that you think the readers should know?

A: First I'd like to thank you for allowing me this opportunity and I
would like to thank Mike and all of the staff at the Sims Outlook for
doing what you are doing for the Sims Community. I would most like
people to know that when we first started at Wretched Sims, EVERYONE on
staff, including myself, had never created a wall, an object, a floor or
anything before...we try to be the place that a creator first puts their
foot in and I have to say that we all have come a long way and we plan
to continue to grow and evolve and have more stuff. Thanks to all of the
people that liked us from the start and for giving us a chance...you
guys ain't seen nothing yet!!! ;)
