Review: The 13th Sim.
Because of this site I have to take back what I said about hating themes…this site is mainly theme based and I LOVE it. They have other objects, skins, walls and floors that are not theme related BUT what makes this site is the six themes that they have finished or the ones they are currently working on. What are the six major themes you may ask? Well, let me tell you – there is Necrophobia, The Lost World, Moon Crest, EGM Studios, Cedric van Darein and the upcoming Sim Town – which looks BEYOND interesting! Sim Town has a link to its own little site and from the looks of it, it is going to an amazing little story with already amazing houses (some available to download already). This looks to be a major ontaking but I have no doubt The 13th Sim can pull it off. Now, back to the other themes. Necrophobia looks to be the only one COMPLETELY done and it is remarkable. There is a quaint little story behind the theme (which I shall not tell you – you must go look for yourself!) with an amazing house, some great skins (characters), floors/walls and objects. I absolutely LOVE the objects offered with Necrophobia, especially the bedroom set. A little warning in advance – you have to download ALL of the objects together so it is a large download but WELL worth it. The next theme is The Lost World, again with a very creative story but it is COMING SOON. Since I can’t analyze the downloads, I will tell you what the theme is about…fairies, elves, and magic. Now some of you have probably read my statements about using fairies in my game but from the looks of these screenshots, I just MAY have to give them another go when this theme is completed. Moon Crest is the third theme and it looks to be released sometime in February and it is a HORROR theme – at least the story is – so I am trying to patiently wait for its arrival (HURRY!!!). The first sentence of the paragraph for this theme starts out – "For years now, the town has laid empty, but now something has begun to stir within the town limits; something cruel. cold and unnatural" – TELL ME THAT DOESN’T SPARK INTEREST!!! These people at The 13th Sim should work for the movies! ANYWAY, moving on, the next theme is EGM Studios. Now this theme is a tribute to the company who provided "The 13th Sim" with their graphics. Basically what you have is a beautifully crafted home (studio) and a nice little story. Not much, but well done. The last theme and another one I am anxiously awaiting is the Cedric van Darien theme…the ORIGINAL 13th Sim. As the tale goes, he was the ultimate outcast…knows only suffering…feels only pain…and weeps in the night. The 13th Sim is calling this the theme to all themes and I am going to have to agree. Another scheduled release for February…WOW – I will be downloading a lot come February. This site definitely knows how to keep you coming back for more. Now I have been raving about the themes, but the site does offer other items…they have objects, houses, skins, walls, floors, THEMES and the obligatory news and links section. In their objects area they offer seating, surfaces, décor, electronics, appliances, plumbing, lighting, misc. and build mode. Since I cannot possibly expect you to stay awake while I review each item I will give you a quick rundown. The biggest bonus in these areas is that they offer a lot of well-done Hot Date objects…very well done! They have a lovely arrangement of chairs (love the Hot Date café seats), a great selection of dining tables (again, love the matching Hot Date café tables) and their Décor section I LOVE – they offer the art of Luis Royo (MY FAVORITE ARTIST) – it is dark, sexual and attractively done (they even have my FAVORITE Luis Royo drawing – Fantasy Art #5). Their electronics and appliance sections have yet to see objects, but their plumbing section contains – FINALLY – some recolored Chrome showers and sinks (I was REALLY tired of that green shower and sink) while their Lighting contains some great recolored HOT DATE lamps and their Misc. contains some recolored dressing rooms. The build mode section mainly contains snow-covered items but they are all very NICELY done. Under their houses section they offer houses in many different varieties (gothic, castles and kingdoms, manors and estates, residential, businesses, weird and wack, themes and downtown area). My personal favorites are the Telvanda Estate, the Nightshade Inn, East Ridge Mall, Glen Haven Formals, Summit Springs Plaza and the Rusty Barnacle (YES – they have made amazing store fronts!!!). Their wall and floors sections are coming soon – these people REALLY know how to keep you coming back for more!!! I will state that in their Necrophobia Theme they do have wonderful walls and floors – if you are looking. Finally skins. What they offer is adult, children, couples, buyable skins, and families. What they have in the adult section is all very nicely done…some of it original, some of it not but all VERY well done. Although they only have three couple skins in the Couple section they are all well done and unique. I know I downloaded all three. The same with Buyable skins…very well done but not very many – which is OKAY – I want them to focus on their THEMES!!! =) Their children and family sections are not open as of yet but again, I am looking very much forward to them since so far all of their things have been remarkable. Well…that pretty much sums up "The 13th Sim" – a very original and creative site that I am looking forward to seeing more from. The only TWO problems I had with this site were broken links (attempted to download the purple chrome sink – the link did not work) and the furniture set in the Necrophobia Theme would not download for me. Now, if this is just me – please email me to let me know and I will take this off the review. It has no baring on the score…I just would like someone to know that the two problems I kept having on the site. My advice for this site…don’t change a thing (well, fix the broken links!) and keep up the excellent work. I, for one, am greatly looking forward to your new themes! (5)
