THE PHANTOM HOTEL

The Excelsior Hotel opened it's Phantom dining room on Friday, December 13th 1996 boasting a totally revamped look the whole hotel itself was covered in Phantom memorabilia and paraphernalia.

A view from the outside of the Excelsior

As soon as you walk into the main dining room, you are immediately struck with visions of the Ghost Who Walks. Mr Walker tells you to please wait until seated, while you wait at the reception area a Carved mural and painted picture look down at you. When you sit in the middle of the dining room and look around one would not believe there to be so many Phantom items in the one room. The menu / specials board has a distinct Jungle feel with Guran watching over your selection. The walls are covered with renderings of scenes from the Phantom comic, and carefully hand painted pictures of the world of the Phantom.

Owner and Proprieter Brad Barreau mentions "...wherever you look, the Phantom is present." (Taken from the Adelaide Weekly Times, December 11, 1996), and nothing could be more accurate. Overlooking your table, are Phantom cherubs sitting peacefully on speakers mounted around the room, and even in the front bar, there are representations of our favourite hero everywhere. One of the most spectacular is a picture with the Phantom coming out of the window above the fireplace. "As you were, 'Gentlemen'!" says the Phantom from one of the most classic scenes in the Phantom comic book history.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful with even the harder to choose dishes and drinks. There is a huge range of dishes and accompanyments available, from the "Slam Evil Starters", "the Legend's Chargrill", "the Depths of the Aegean Sea", "the Main Feasts", "Devilish Desserts", and "Jungle Juices". Conspicious by it's absence though is the Phantom's own approved bar beverage of Milk.
